my drums preview

well...ive finished my full drums for a track im working on...meaning this is as far as the drums will play at a time..its peaking at -6.33 and im not too happy about that...my final mixdown is aiming at -3...

(and yes, its only supposed to be 14 seconds long...so please dont get thrown off by that its just a lil loop of the chorus drums) lol

heres a preview of it...

u do know that the mp3 is drums playing till 0:14, then its just 58 seconds og silence?

anyways, i'd throw in a crunchy kinda shaker, playing a "gouryella"-kinda pattern.. other than that it sounds pretty cool.. i dont really know what the point of yur post is really, so thats as far as i can go in commenting this lol.. oh and yeah -6 db is better for the mixdown..

yeah yeah i looped it up to 14 seconds only, the rest of the 58 got in there by accident lol, sorry about that...i only wanted to know if it sounded "pro," you know? to make sure other people felt that there was depth in it...now of course those were just the chorus drums, so i have a lot of variations to do....when i make a track i lways do the kick and bass first, then percussion, cymbals etc...

by the way hows the kick?

Posted by itsamemario on Dec-06-2006 15:34:

sounds pretty tight.. i'd maybe give it a little more punch tho..

Posted by Feonix on Dec-06-2006 15:43:

yo thnx a lot man ill add just a lil bit of more punch to it

sounds flat and the all the different elements sound thin....especially the clap/snare and hats.

how to fix it? i'm not sure, if anyone else agrees with my view then maybe they can help, otherwise maybe it's just me...

ok, cool thanks for the feedback...i dont know how it sounds flat...i cut and boosted alot, ...what are you listning yo it out of? from my monitors and sony mdr 7506's it sounded pretty round...now of course if i felt it sounded so good i wouldnt have asked for help, but i felt that flatness wasn't my issue at all...i cut the low freqs out of the hats cuz i didnt need them...perhaps your listening to it through some kind of preset on your equalizer?

i'm using some roland monitors, they arn't the best, but they are ok. when i say flat i mean there is no groove or energy, nor dynamic, but that is just my opinion. just because i feel this way it doesn't mean that i am right obviously. you asked for comments and i gave you just that from a listeners perspective. maybe some others could contribute thier opinions as well?

edit: and don't take my comments in a negative way

hey man, i agree with what you said...there's hi-hats that are missing in the mid range...so i chopped up this loop i made that was once 140bpm, and brought it down to 138, the tempo of the whole track..and the loop is prominent in the mid range more so than the high (which the rest of the cymbals are) and i added a lil sub-drum that you can barely here for a nice effect...check it out now and tell me what you think...

Full Drums Edit

i cant see the kick holding its own when other elements are added! sounds weak!

a snapper clap would sound nicer....

in general the whole lot needs to be a tad more crispy....

sounds very soft...the kick needs more punchiness, because I don't think you'll hear it with other synths (in the climax for instance), especially with the bass...unless you're side-chaining them together.

I'd also compress the hihats and put a tender ride on top of them. maybe add some panned woods or congas, and I think you're pretty much set.

just one thing: don't make it sound like it's a premade loop from a sample cd.

it doesnt sound "bad", its just way too standard.

kick needs beefing up, the o-hat is way too typical 1999 trance sounding and the share is a bit lame. the whole thing doesnt seem to really have much rythm. to me it just sounds like stuff thrown together.

keep at it
