bassline

hey guys

i JUST started trying to produce music about 2 weeks ago, after watching some good freidns of mine do it for a while now.

i was wondering if you could offer some pro tips and tricks for creating a deep, rolling, driving bassline.

how do you get that real deep bassy sound without it sounding all distorted/weird? Do you just have to hit the right keys with the right amount of filter, or is it all about how to work the EQ. Maybe it's none of that?

I'm really clueless for basslines, so any tips and tricks would be very much appreciated.

i figured it was that kinda question, but thanks for all the links, will def be reading a lot now!

yea man, your question is far too general, a look on some of those links would prove useful.
general tips and tricks on basslines is to use slight swing/shuffle, maybe sidechain compression and not too heavy bass frequencies (cut below 50 Hz or something). but again, this is a too general question for a "correct" answer

There are no "tricks", that's why you haven't gotten any good answers. There's no magic red button that pops gold records out of your CD-R whenever you press it.

A bassline is a composite of (a) synthesis, and (b) composition. Learn both of those and you'll have no problem with basslines. Both sections are amply covered in the tutorial list, top of the stickies.

The secret is to do the Jesus Christ pose right when you are playing back your bassline.

on fruity loops the DX10 produces some excellent basslines.

Zechner, the MIDOR remix of Stellar Winds is a good example of what I think is a good rolling bassline.

Both version of that tune are fucking mint btw. Why no digital release?

Been after it for ages!

Also congrats on the tutorials you've done, very handy indeed!
