He's a really good blues guitarist, and its what drew me into listening to his music along time ago. Pretty big John Mayer fan here.

His new album is definetly good compared to his earlier pop efforts. I do believe he's a really good guitar player and he showcases his ability on his cover of Hendrix's "Bold As Love." He wants to be recognized as something different now that what he started off as which isn't easy. If he continues to put out good music though that strays away from pop music I think he has a chance.
