playing the stock market(books)

i was wondering if anyone could recommend a good book that would help one learn about the stock market, and how it all works. i'm curious about the subject and i always wondered how it all goes 'round...and possibly i would like to invest in it as well. i know it takes money to make money, and that it does take work and patience for anything to go in your favor, so you don't have to tell me that.

if you have any knowledge, or if you could recommend some good reading, that'd be most super!

I'll recommend some books later .... but what I will recommend you do is steer away of these get rich quick with the stock market types of books.

Learn the ins and outs of sell, hold, buy concepts, financial analyzes, etc

Here is a couple that should help you out:

1. How to Pick Stocks Like Warren Buffett: Profiting from the Bargain Hunting Strategies of the World's Greatest Value Investor

2. The Warren Buffet Way

3. You can be a stock market genius by Joel Green Blat

The first two concentrate on the investment style and trend that Warren Buffet uses and the last one is pretty broad deals with merging arbitrage and other different types of investment options. Hope these help they are great books!

You're young so can afford to take some losses. Be a little aggressive and diversify your portfolio. Small market caps and aggregate bonds are economical and conservative but dip your toe in International core funds and invest in Large Value Equity (maybe about 20% each) and then put the rest in a Money Market account.

Do you have a Roth IRA?

Billionaire Warren Buffet whose stock Berkshire Hathaway sells for over $100,000 each, called The Intelligent Investor the best book on stock investment ever written. Like the bible of stocks.

I'm an amatuer stock trader, and it's taken me months of teaching myself through lots of internet research, and mostly through raw experience with a practice portfolio.

$50,000 Practice Portfolio

I've made about 17%. But it's taken me some time to develop a workable strategy based on the companies 'fundamentals'. I like to use more fundamental analysis with some 'technical analysis' sprinkled in. Every strategy is different.

If you want to get started, I suggest you research these things in order. Sources include: MSN Money, Yahoo! Finance, Investopedia, Wikipedia. These sites are great places to start.

1. Stock market - How it works.
2. Strategies - Fundamental & Technical Analysis
3. Famous Investors - Warren Buffet

Once you learn enough, then you can practice what you've learned on a practice portfolio. Once you 'get it', then you have the confidence to invest real money. You educate yourself if you want to personally manage your portfolio. If, like most people, you don't have the time, or the know-how, or motivation to educate yourself, buy mutual funds or hire a financial advisor.

I on the other hand, I want to do this as my career, so this is what I do all day.
