Baiji river dolphin extinct

So thats the word today, the pre-historic fresh water river dolphin which once lived in the Yangtze river is consider extinct now.
My dad has spent much of his life trying to save this dolphin, and is on his way back from china right now. this is the first dolphin or whale to become extinct within our lifetimes.
Worst thing is it was completely avoidable but the Chinese are fucktards.

Not really people eating them, it was more their retarded ways of fishing and obscene pollution.

Though that's true, food like dogs and cats are considered very taboo, and are mostly reserved as fancy dishes for rich snobs.

I heart animals.

Posted by Alex on Dec-09-2006 06:30:

It's not that they eat everythin, it's that they're so fucking desperate to industrialize as quickly as possbible that the environment is so far down on their list of priorities.

Chinese people have SERIOUSLY different values than ours.

Yuppers, totally with you on that one BUTTTTTTTTTTT...It's the outcomes of these differences in values that reallly fucking pisses me off.

Helpless, innocent entities die. And that will always remain wrong in my books.

Unless China pays more attention to the environment they're society is going to collapse and they wont be able to produce all that cheap shit we buy at wal-mart.

Posted by Tag on Dec-09-2006 07:05:

Well the thing is, is the Baiji is a prehistoric dolphin, it's lastest this long so, for them to go extinct is like crocodiles going extinct or something, you have to seriously fuck then environment for that to happen.
Anyways, it's especially dissappointed cause my dad has spent most of his life trying to save this animal only to see it die off in his lifetime.

Posted by oldschool420 on Dec-09-2006 07:38:

Wow that's sad news. Wouldn't surprise me if this is the first of many things like this that happen because of China inudstrializing.

Its easy to blame the Chinese for not caring about the environment, we're here enjoying high standards of living and watching all this from our high chairs.

At this moment, they don't give a shit about the environment, all they want is to be like us.

Environemenatalisme is a new thing for the west, we too destroyed our surroundings.

Well you're actually totally wrong about that. In many ways the chinese care more about pollution then the west does, because they realize but only recently that they have critical issues they have to deal with right now, or the economy will collapse.

Posted by malek on Dec-09-2006 17:18:

Sure there is some very dedicated people in China that care about the issue. But they have no voice in the big red government, the economy is the first priority of Beijing and it will prevail over the others until they notice things can't go like that forever.

The masses are even worse, they don't give two shit about it because for the most part they're uneducated and don't see the link between their environment state and their survival.

Not really. The government actually is doing alot to try and make changes cause they have serious water and air issues, they know the economy is fucked if they dont solve these problems. Thats why there's chinese going around the world stealing technology for water treatment and the like.

clean water not only help the population but buisness too!

Don't kid yourself, I hope you didn't get that optimism about the chinese from your father who fought all his live to save that dolphin believing there was a future for it.

err dude i guess u misunderstood or i didnt explain. I meant that the chinese economy WILL collapse if they dont solve their water issues, they realize its a problem and are trying to work on it now. Which is a good thing, of course they're doing it for the 'economy' but it's happening either way. And you dont understand the level at which my dad does his work, not just some hippie who runs around in boats, he's in with the senior government in the US and China so stfu noob.
