Top 10 Films of 2006

I know the year isn't quite over, and there are still a few more that I want to see (Blood Diamond, Apocalypto, Scoop, The Fountain), but what are your top 10 films of 2006 thusfar?

There were a lot of films that I thought I would but didn't really like this year (Superman, Da Vinci, Pirates, etc.)

Here are my tops:

10. The Departed
Despite the fantastic acting, I think I'm one of the few that didn't love this movie.
9. X-2
Only ranked so low because the ending kind of pissed me off.
8. MI:III
Some pretty badass action sequences, and Philip Seymour Hoffman is a wicked sweet villain.
7. Catch A Fire
I'm an admitted sucker for films about Africa, and this one didn't disappoint.
6. Inside Man
I was really impressed by this film -- I truly didn't expect it to be all that great.
5. Syriana
I'm including this one from last December because I saw it in theaters in January. A well-spun political thriller.
4. The Prestige
Probably because I was one of the lame people who didn't see the ending coming.
3. Babel
Despite the lack of understandable dialogue, this film was so full of raw human emotion, and had a great message.
2. The Last King of Scotland
Pretty obvious from my avy I suppose, but this movie pretty much single-handedly inspired me to apply for a research grant to go to Uganda next year.
1. V for Vendetta
I simply loved this film.

I'm surprised this made ANYONE'S top 10.

Even the comic fans.

I've only seen 2 movies this year, Snakes on a Plane, and Borat. So those are my top 10.

(was Doom this year? I saw that too)

Like I said, I was pretty disappointed overall with the quality of movies I saw this year. Perhaps I'm just acting all crazy because of the pictures of Famke in the beautiful women thread

One of the best movies I saw this year was actually made in 2005, so it doesn't really count, but it's certainly worth mentioning anyways because I suspect that many people have not seen it:

Absolutely stupendous movie. Not many films leave you with a good feeling anymore - I find most "feel-good" movies to be sappy and full of unnecessarily shitty melodrama and bad acting. This movie is nothing like that. It's just a great story, through and through. Very highly recommended.

Another surprise flop.

Nah. Not really a surprise.

I really want to see The Illusionist.

I don't think I even saw 10 films in 2006 but the best one I did see was Munich from almost every aspect of why I go to see a movie. It was one of those defining movies in Speilberg's career since it was really the first time he had tried to film a movie of this sort of nature and personally I found it to be quite realistic.
