Thumbs up Del Piero appreciation thread.

the best first touch striker ever.

in my opinion, this man can deliver from anywhere, any service, no matter where the ball is around his body, with either foot.

Check out the video.

EDIT: Free-Kicks -

he may be a bit older now but at his prime this was definitely the case. agree or disagree?

Posted by The_G0dfather on Dec-14-2006 20:38:

Agree, one of the best but he's never been the same after his injurie

Posted by zoric on Dec-14-2006 20:49:

That fucking Udinese injury almost a decade ago stopped him from being even better than he's been so far.

Loyal and fair player, scores some nice goals and very important ones even though he's not playing all the time.

One of my favorite players. Liked him more than Zizou when he played for Juve. What a player! Thanks for the compilation

Posted by chesco on Dec-15-2006 00:35:

Del piero circa 95/96 was the best player I'd ever seen and imo would have gone on to greater things had he never picked up such bad injuries.

His volley against fiorentina is one of the most impossible things i've ever seen done on the football park.

I actually started supporting juventus for a while because I liked him that much, I still have a soft spot for them and will do so up until they no longer have del piero playing for them. remember when rangers drew them in the champions league and beat them 4-0 and 4-1 in the groups and del piero had an absolute field day with the rangers team, getting one of their players sent of with his mesmirising(sp) skills and scoring one of the best free kicks ever from the corner of the 18 yard box.

what a player

Posted by RapidFire on Dec-15-2006 05:20:

the goal at 0:55 is fuckin crazy

Posted by Danny Ocean on Dec-16-2006 20:30:

nothing impressive.

Posted by PersianMafia on Dec-16-2006 22:16:

lolers Tudor makes Del Piero look like a midget. Funnier yet is this one video where Miccoli scores a goal, and tudur hugs him, and miccoli (who is very short) is literally at Tudor's belly level. I love it! Good old Lippi reign.

Fondly remember many of these goals, and many a time shouting at the top of my lungs. My official all-time favourite player. And yes, that Fiorentina strike is one of a kind.

he's not a dribbler i'll give you that, but don't give garbage reviews like that. the man is a legend.

Posted by Yohan on Dec-17-2006 05:40:

He's a legend for sure.

His accomplishments, his leadership skills definitely deserve respect

dribblings not his specialty, but he can do it as he showed against madrid in that classic 2003 CL 2nd leg semifinal goal (and many others, but thats just a classic).

As your first post says, at first touch he is beyond world class. not sure if there's a comprehensive video of all his freekicks, but that would be soo sweet.

Oh what a player...not only for Juve has he shown dedication and respect but also with the Azzurri he is a star that everyone wants to see on the squad. When he comes on from the bench people chant his name, his skills are second to none and now being at a bit of an old age can still pull some great performances. But yes nothing beats his peak performances at Juve in 96 with a great Juve team that couldn't be stopped. Although i am a Milan fan i do have a soft spot for Juve because of true legends like Del Piero. Respect.

more of a one move guy really. i mean you look at ronaldo (either one) and they'll pull a move then another and another... and they'll lose the ball at times (more often than they should). del piero's dribbling consists of coming straight at you and making one before before either striking the ball or passing it off. i'm not saying that's always the case with every player i mentioned but generally this is the truth 75% of the time.

fucking rights! when he scored that goal against germany, shit man. people at the cafe thought i was crazy in my celebration for grosso's goal, but when dp scored that chipper of a shot, they really began to doubt my sanity. i was in cyprus at the time, and all these cypriots looked at me as if i was a fool. but i just let loose!!!! and his goal against mexico in 02 cause an earthquake at my house at 6 in the morning

what a finish.

Baggio, Zidane, Bergkamp leave him for dead in the 90's. IMO.

different type of players.

Posted by fcuk on Dec-21-2006 09:14:

That counter-attack play was very nice. Smart play by Gila...for once. DP and Baggio do have similarities in their free kicks, penalties and long range goals. Except DP had more aerial goals than Baggio he rarely scored headers, still a legend without a doubt tho.

Zidane maybe, i would disagree with the other two.

ltho baggio did carry italy the whole way to the world cup 94 final.
