Zabiela vs. Halliwell

I've been seeing alot of people talking about the mixing skills of both Zabiela and Halliwell.

I was just wondering...in your opinion, who is better?

Posted by RJT on Dec-14-2006 22:50:

Zabiela, hands down.

Agreed.

Jz is better i think but you can't compare the two since both spin diffrent genres.

Posted by RJT on Dec-14-2006 23:29:

I think it's completely fair to compare the two, Halliwell and Zabiela are both intensely unique DJ's who take technical DJ'ing in their respective genre's to new heights, and in general, escape strict definition by a single genre. IMO, Zabiela is a far more well rounded DJ than Halliwell - Eddie has a really solid bag of tricks that he busts out, and busts out well - But JZ is simply capable of more; though I want to make clear that I'm not arguing a "more is better" stance, I simply think that the combination of Zabiela's expanded abilities in combination with the all around high level of quality he's consistently able to achieve make him the "better" DJ in the comparison.

yup, zabiela.

Posted by Shamez214 on Dec-15-2006 00:28:

I don't think it's even close...

Posted by chesco on Dec-15-2006 00:41:

I'm not a fan of either of them but zabiela for skill would win hands down.

halliwell flogs the same tricks all the time, zabiela is a bit of a pioneer with the pioneers.

Its like comparing Lexus with Toyota. Zabiela is the Lexus.

Posted by Timski on Dec-15-2006 02:18:

Yeah they both have 2 different styles but it's Zabiela 100%. Halliwell doesn't touch him as far as skills, effects and scratch talent. Not to mention I hate trance so Zabiela's track selection and sets turns my crank a lot more.

I completely see where this is coming from and it's a great way of looking at it. I have only seen Halliwell live out of the 2 so I can't say how I enjoyed Zabiela live, but Eddie was a real joy. The energy level is crazy with him, even if you pop 4 of them you're still tired before the first hour's up .

Essential Mix.

I think Zabiela totally pwnz Haliwell, but on the other hand I think Dave Clarke could still give JZ a run for his money!

Not on the CDJs though

2004 Essential Mix. (this is my favorite set of all time)

He scratches dope about an hour and two minutes into it during the R.E.M. remix.

It's funny that anyone in their right mind would dare to compare JZ's skills with Halliwell's.

I think it's just wierd. The records the play arn't even remotely similar. The styles are completely different.

JZ's tech skills surpass most djs in general though. The kid is amazing.

Halliwell is your classic crowd pleasing DJ. Always full of energy, and he is a pirate on the mixer.

Unhappy

Ahhh.. is there anyway to get JZ EM mix????

Being a trancehead, I'd probably prefer to see Eddie Halliwell, but that's not because I'm closed minded or haven't heard of James Zabiela before. I actually just find some of his sets a bit bland at times (however blasphemous that may seem around here.)

Technically though, Zabiela's mixing is probably more impressive.

agreed. Sometimes it's really boring. Too much robot bleeps for me.

I've seen him two times.. Walked away to another area both times after five minutes tops. However cutting edge people might think it is, I don't give a flying fuck about that scratching stuff.

Guess I'm more of a 'let the music speak for itself' kinda guy.

Posted by Kinuvan on Dec-16-2006 00:45:

ha zabiela boring!? ludicrous!

JZ wins hands down on this one. Eddie is a legend though.
