Spirit Re-opening in the Spring

| 27th Street Shuffle: West Chelsea Nightlife Mogul Snatches Plagued Megaclub While Amy Sacco may or may not be selling Bungalow 8, Jon B, owner of cash cows Home and Guest House, is in contract to purchase another slot on the coke-dusted Monopoly board that is West Chelsea. Having convinced the yoga-loving owner of Spirit, Robbie Wootton, to abandon his fight to reopen since the club's forcible closure in August, Jon B says he'll take over its West 27th Street space and bring an upscale crowd to rock shows and big-name D.J. performances. "I intend to operate it totally differently," he says of a space that has been under scrutiny since its days as Twilo. Of course, Jennifer Moore, the New Jersey girl who was murdered in July after a night of clubbing, spent her last hours at Jon B's Guest House, and the subsequent nightlife crackdown raises question about how easy it'll be to transfer Spirit's liquor license. After Wootton pays off the estimated $6,600 in State Liquor Authority fines, Jon B estimates it'll be two or three months before a transfer is granted (a year-end freeze on new licenses in the area has caused a backlog of applications). After that, he says, it'll take another few months to turn the place into something "very different than what everybody is used to." And what's a suitable name for this new club, something that outclasses even Jon B's other venues, Home and Guest House? Alas, Mansion is already the hottest club in Miami. Daniel Maurer Source |

hmm shruggs
iono...im starting to just think the NYC nightlife is JUST dead.
case in point: STEREO -- what was gona happen with that place?!!!
all i see coming out from Stereo are DJS that I don't wanna see.
(DJ Merritt wtfff)
so much for promising.
the only decent places left are like PACHA (quickly diminishing) and Cielo as mainstays...I guess Crobar but only because they can pull in DJS. otherwise, no thank you. i'd rather stick with local and underground or w/e

Stereo is SUCH a great club in MTL, but if people in NYC dont get any advertising, wtf are we supposed to know whats going on there? Hope they start bringing some talent in, bc I would LOVE to see that place go off!! |
That place should stay closed... the place was sketchball city before and now its going to the Guesthouse, Home route. Agreed, the prospects look shitty, like another Duvet, pretentious crowd and tough entry.

What does everyone think about PACHA's success in NYC?? and do you think it has been just AS successful and renowned as PACHA in Ibiza? are they bringing in similar caliber of djs? I'm curious on this one... the NYTAS that have gone to Ibiza can answer this one |

Pacha is guido heaven.

| Originally posted by knittybone I remember being rather unimpressed with the Ibiza Pacha, it didnt really do it for me, and other clubs there blew it out of the water (Privelege, Eden, Amnesia, etc.)... with that being said, its not going to be as renowned as the Ibiza one. The caliber of djs isnt going to be as good just for the fact Ibiza has superstar djs there every night of the week. I honestly like NYC Pacha, especially the basement... although it gets rediculously hot, and it'll probably be closed down in a year. |
i actually miss spirit in some way i had alot of good times there
but yea i have a feelin this club is gonna be turned into another one of those bottle service kinda clubs thats like the rest of the block
if thats the case well then let it be best of luck to them but i have no intention of goin there and its only a matter of time before they fuk up again and get closed
and if they are gonna just play hip hop on that sound syestem oh man wat a waste that will be
i miss danny t afterhours on that syestem
fuk hip hop
3rd time for clubs usually isnt a charm..
Damn I miss Exit back in the Tony Draper days
This is the best news ive heard in a long time. Mansion is an amazing club, if Jon brings that kind of party to New York it will really take off. Secondly, we need these up scale venues in the city. It will attract all the stuffed shirt fuddy duddys who buy expensive drinks and sit at tables to make themselves feel important. I want those vibe killa's all in a club togethor and NOT at our venues....(love, shelter, cielo)

BTW, Pacha Barcelona was hands down the most impressive Pacha I have been in, with stadium seating VIP behind the DJ Booth. The music was amazing as well even though it was a resident spinning that night. http://www.clubpachabcn.com/flash/index.html |
