Mike Nichol? Australia's best Trance DJ?

Best Trance DJ ive seen, and I have seen them all (In NZ & Europe) and the only Australian DJ I have flown over 3 times to play for my events in Auckland. Sends the crowd silly every time, like no one else can.

Paul van Dyk? AVB? Ferry? Seen them all, some many times. Great DJ's, but in terms of sheer technical skill. None come close.

One of his Tracks also found his way onto a mix compilation i released earlier in the year.

Being an established DJ myself, and having supported 30 international acts in the last 18 months & toured 12 in the last 10 months, I am perhaps more educated than most on what makes a good DJ?

My opinion isnt really subjective.. 2000 other NZ Clubbers would agree.

Mike is just perhaps the most underated? Guess its all political.. like every other city in the world?

Thoughts?

Wow, 3 "why isnt mike nichol playing main stage gigs" threads in 1 year. I think that's gotta be some kind of record

And to answer the thread question, Australia's greatest trance dj is RUBY.

Mike is good.

But Steve May is the best Trance DJ in Australia imo.

ill be honest, i love a bit of masturbation myself. but i normally tend to do it in private, where nobody can see me spew jizz uncontrollably all over myself. you seem to like advertising what a wanker you are?

Posted by Jared Knapp on Dec-18-2006 03:23:

Lol. Nothing wrong with trying to avoid the obligatory "What do you know?", "Opinions are like arseholes, everyone's got one", etc etc.
Not really masturbation at all, personally I like to hear from people who are qualified to make an opinion, on some level.
Nowhere close to the obvious public masturbation ive heard some of you Aussie DJ's belt out in any case.

Ruby? Seen him play. Technically sound. He has a sound tech background doesnt he? Very clinical & precise, plus cheese isnt my thing.
Nothing on Mike.

Steve May? Had him over to play for me. ( http://www.incline-events.com/index...&id=25&Itemid=7 )Would have him again. Great progressive/prog trance DJ. Wouldnt really call him a 'Trance DJ' though. Solid mixer. Doesnt make you wait for the mix like Mike does.

im surprised you can find time out from your mike felating sessions long enough to post on a net forum.

plus, last time i checked kiwis were only good for sheep fucking and bashing their women.

to be honest ive never heard him play before........so i cant really judge.

lol jules? papa as in smurfie?

HAHAHAHHA @ how times change.

I prefer listening to tough & driving tech-trance or hard trance when im out.
There isnt really anyone else who plays the style i like except perhaps Charlie Z & Smurfie.
Strangis is alright as well, but i prefer when he bangs it out with more bass.
lol

i'm sorry but somehow your obvious attitude problem seems to be getting in the way of whether or not your opinion may or may not be more valid than anyone elses lol

Posted by Light The Fuse on Dec-18-2006 03:44:

depends on your defintion of trance i guess

Posted by Anomyst on Dec-18-2006 05:07:

Mike is great, top bloke and very skilled! but i guess everyone has thier own interpretation of what they think is good. i will have mike play at lots of my parties, hes a champ! and never, ever complains about anything, always happy to play.

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Dec-18-2006 05:12:

i think mortyman is the best trance dj in australia at the moment.

Posted by 00soups00 on Dec-18-2006 05:17:

soups used to be the best, but he no longer plays trance....

dj bassmonger is a real up and comer

Posted by vman83 on Dec-18-2006 07:11:

to all of the above - i can hardly take anyone on AUta seriously

But yes Mike Nichol is an awesome Dj, and im not just saying this because i consider him to be a mate. He has lots of skills and what ? 8 years or some shit behind him to back him up.

His tracks are all fuckin quality, awesome euphoric trance with a style very specific to Mike Nichol. He uses a very specific kick in alot of his tracks which blows punters jox off.

As a person as well mike is extremely friendly and he had no problems at all teaching me the ropes.

I seriously have nothing but respect for the man and i really hope to see his tracks take off enormously around the world. I think he deserves it and i believe he has the talent to write tracks which stand out from alot of other producers... have u heard his latest project with Matt Darey

Posted by Fpcookie on Dec-18-2006 07:27:

mike is definately up there if not the best local trance DJ that i have heard

Posted by Fledz on Dec-18-2006 07:46:

I've heard good things about him but I've never heard him play so I can't say he's the best.

Posted by steve_may on Dec-18-2006 08:33:

thx dean i love u stadium prog 5k+ ftw

jared, hopefully see u again early next year

mike is cool

Posted by tonydanza on Dec-18-2006 10:36:

Talented dude and great bloke to boot

Why do people feel the need to label someone as the best though? Really, who gives a shit? It's not going to make the slightest difference or have any impact on anything.

Posted by Dean Millson on Dec-18-2006 12:35:

Agreed Danza.

Vman, i don't think many people would disagree with you at all.

But seriously, what a stupid thread.

If your point was to embarras Mike JayKay, i reckon you might have succeeded

youve obviously never heard DJ BassMonger play noob.

Posted by Mortyman on Dec-18-2006 15:57:

I don't think this is a pointless thread. He's obviously just expressing his opinion. And props to him for puting up with all the AUTA BULLSHIT from the wankers on here that are obviously jealous that he's not mentioning their names or their mates.

TA "Used to be" a place to promote the next upcoming dj (or music) and spread the word to people who had a genuine interest in their passion. Since I've been on AUTA, it's always, AND I MEAN ALWAYS, the same people expressing their dislike for a particular person, or view, and then everyone jumps on the bandwagon because they don't want to be the next one to be ragged on for opposing the collective.
Now it's just a place for fucking wankers to express their views about movies, video games and people they hate!

I've never heard Mike play, met him once, and seemed like a nice guy. I'm very interested to him him play, and thanks to this "pointless" thread It makes me more excited to hear what he's got!

(If Mike's even a TA)
Good on ya Mike! Glad to hear your making some noise overseas and the best of luck to you in future endeavours!
