+1

Joteetz.

Edit: To be nominated, it helps to be socially involved in TXTA a bit too. Sean is a badass person from what I have heard from others, but how can you be MIA if you weren't really there to begin the year with?

Posted by Zeonfiend on Dec-19-2006 19:16:

I saw him live at Tiesto, so he's not MIA. Screen I'd presumed had been killed by a Peruvian hooker with an angry inch left post-op, so he wins.

Death by Hedwig is always the worst.

Sean was busy on here promoting events at the beginning of the year, and then he seemed to mysteriously disappear at some point. I somehow missed the nomination thread but oh well. He promoted, off the top of my head, PVD, Deep Dish, Junkie XL, BT, Infusion, John Digweed (He has my eternal and undying love for making that party happen), Hernan Cattaneo, DJ Hyper, Bassnectar, and Tiesto, all before the end of April. And he's very socially involved, AT EVENTS. I've gotten to meet him and talk about music and life and various other shit, he's one of the friendliest guys I've met at a club. I've been away from the city for a while, really need to catch up with the guy.

And then he disappeared, at least from these boards. I remember a LOT of very unkind words being said by various people towards him, about various things (and I remember something of an altercation with Matthias too), so I can't really blame him for leaving. He's done more for the scene in Houston over the past 10 years than anyone else alive, and he was getting slammed for not knowing what was going on in the scene here, and not promoting events well enough.

Sean, wherever you are, I hope you're still promoting parties, and I hope I can still find out about them. I'll be there, probably wearing my Hyperia closing party shirt (RIP Hyperia, those were the days), and you've got a drink on me wherever we are.

Posted by Zild on Dec-20-2006 17:20:

I don't think he was getting slammed at all. You want to see him getting slammed? Go to lockedgrooves.

Promoting events and being social are two totally different things. No one denies his immense contributions.

Dirk Westphal making fun of someone - Being social
Sean / Wetgrooves posting events and bumping them - Promoting (Not Being Social)

Back up. What the hell are you talking about? Sean Carnahan and I have never been involved in an 'altercation'.

I've known Sean since 2004, and would agree with you on this. He has a tendency to get stern at a few of his events, but I've learned its business related and never personal.

Its my opinion and observation that you tend read too much into some of the stuff on these boards. It's also my humble opinion that anyone that takes anything too seriously from an internet forum is a fool. Most of what's said on here in done in good fun compared to www.houstonbeats.com

Also I seriously DOUBT anyone of the shit-talking said about Sean was done to his face. To this date, the people who have talked shit about me on the net and behind my back, during my 5 years as a DJ, had ever had the nerve to say it to my face. The invitation is certainly open though

Posted by Matthias on Dec-21-2006 07:07:

Also, if anyone was wondering, the main reason I have been MIA is because of the finances. As many know I have taken up a second hobby that has an expensive start-up investment, but gets cheaper overtime. I'm also doing alot of training for the occupations that support skydiving as far as being a FAA rigger.

I work an 8-5 mondays through fridays which, unlike previous jobs, is very unforgiving of mistakes made by employees suffering from a hangover much less sleep deprivation. My weekends are spent at Skydive Houston. Once I get licensed, which shouldn't be too much longer if the damn weather will cooperate, the jumps will go down to $20 and I will have the resources to hit out of town weekend events again.

Im posting this because Its been brought to my attention by more than one person that many people have the general idea that I have 'given up on the music and left the scene for good'. While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, here's mine: that's bullshit. While I tend to disagree with the trendy and pop-culture materialsm aspect of the VIP crowd, and the julios..there isn't a damn thing in the world that will ever make me give up on the music. I've been DJing for 5 years, playing the piano/synth for 15 years, and had whatever gift I had with appreciation since I was 1-2 years old listening to Kitaro, Vangelis and whoever the hell else I listened to back then. In the past few months I've taken it with me to the dropzone and shared it with the other jumpers there. It will always be a part of my life. I don't care how corny this may sound but, I may be MIA from the events...but I'm there in spirit. 0.02

OK, this thread is an example of why more people need to smoke weed.

ROFL, though I find myself having to agree.

maybe I am reading too far into things, but I remember some disagreement over the promotion of some event (Matthias claiming Sean didn't make it well known or something, Sean claiming that the info had been everywhere and Matthias only cared about gigs where he was the opening DJ), which continued a few more posts, after which Sean basically never posted here again. Oh well, times change things happen we move on I guess. Guess I just feel defensive of someone who (to me) has been an icon of what's right about the EDM scene.

Ahh, so thats what that was about, yeah I would say that was a serious misunderstanding. This is about the only electronic music forum or website I browse anymore and missed the thread/info about it. That was my bad, ah well.

Now the whole 'Matthias only cared about gigs where I was an opener'...I'm not quite sure what that was about, but I have never once made any statement like that. If anyone has gotten that impression of me they are seriously mistaken.

To each their own.
