Can someone please explain this to me?

Ok, i consider myself semi-intelligent but i just dont understand this....

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.a...12-2702,00.html

Ok so a shark has a munch on a surfer and now we have to kill the shark. Do we just hang around and any sharks we see just tap them on the dorsal and say "excuse me mr bitey, you didnt by any chance happen to take a chunk out of a surfer in a wetsuit cause you thought it was a seal?"

I mean surely anyone surfing acknowledges that whilst entering the ocean you do so on the terms of its favoured inhabitants - namely sharks and other strong biting creatures that will take you fucking leg right off it it so pleases.

If these terms arent favourable then stay right out of the ocean. We dont generally try and bulldoze Everest when a climber so dies so surfers harden the fuck up.

i may be wrong, but i believe part of the reason is that once a shark has had a crack at a human then they can "get a taste for it" and there is an increased probability that it will attack again.

yes it is a strange one, as they're just being sharks i guess.

I'd say this bash quote is applicable.

quote:
I heard about this guy who broke into a lion's den at the zoo
and got mauled
and people were talking about how there should have been better defences put up to prevent people getting into the cage
a friend of mine suggested setting up some kind of deterrent
for example, putting some sort of fierce animal in the cage, which would attack anybody who climbed in

rather unfortunate for these things to happen but its just nature

shit happens and its just sad people have to die

i dissagree with killing the sharks, but then again if a shark Pwnd my brother or mate id wana rampage all sharks too...

If he ate my brother i'd just get flake at the fish and chip shop.

I can't believe the guy calling for the shark to be killed!!! and he calls himself a surfer!!

Posted by Lilith on Dec-19-2006 13:06:

Lot of surfers are wankers and they seemed to have added idiots to the ranks, so a few less isnt going to have me upset at all
It's an avoidable thing, Sharks live in the ocean, they bite things and eat them, it's what they do, it's fairly much all they do and theyre suprisingly good at it. We live on land, we wander around and spend our days dodging mostly other stupid humans in vehicles to stay alive.
If you dont want to get bitten and eaten, don't go play in the water when ones about, I would have thought that was fairly simple really.

LMFAO!

As for the shark, I believe Dean is correct. It's to do with the fact that the shark has now proven that it is capable of such a thing and killing it before it does it again is the only option. It's cruel, but hey Human > Shark anyday. Well apart from Saddam, Osama, Hitler etc but you get my point

Ok but again how to you decide which shark it is?

Maybe he/she is jaded and just cbf anymore so surfers have to do.

Posted by piratepeteofoz on Dec-20-2006 00:17:

I reckon we've just over fished so much that the poor fuckin' sharks are looking further, dunno why they choose surfers though, obviously got a thing for rubber.

vman would you really feel better if the shark that ate your brother in the surf was killed? I think that is ridiculous.

If people want to take risks thats their choice but dont go bloody crying home when something bad happens.

"When asked whether it should be killed he said: "Unfortunately yes. It is not a nice thing, but I don't think any surfer wants it hanging around."

well did anyone ask the shark if he wanted those surfers hanging around? dickheads.

if there was anything like scars on fins or stuff you could probably identify it but i doubt it

Posted by T-Soma on Dec-20-2006 14:24:

Taken from an article called Patterns of White Shark Attacks on Humans -
"Identifying the species of shark responsible for a given attack is extremely difficult."
(LINK)
If so then how the hell are they going to pinpoint one shark?

Posted by MiSSyM on Dec-21-2006 08:27:

so for every shark that bites someone, these surfers are going to want to hunt it down and kill it?

thats fkn ghey.

sharks are sharks, they like the taste of humans, if you know sharks live in the ocean, you take the risk on entering.

shit happens.

killing one shark wont solve anything.

Posted by Wormy on Dec-21-2006 08:36:

The Human race has worked long and hard to be at the top of the food chain. If sharks fuck with us, prepare for slaughter.

Posted by Lilith on Dec-21-2006 08:43:

Hah, theyre an avoidable hazard, especially if its just a recreational choice people chose to do.
Put the shark hunting money towards policing so we dont get mugged or assaulted going out to clubs, because chances are your more likely to get run over, bashed or robbed by ordinary bipedal predators than some fish.

No they dont like the taste of us, thats why its usually only one bite and then they spit us out.
