Behold, my arse. Of Miss USA and the Scarlet Letter

Sometimes I'm shocked to see how America has never really left its Puritan past behind, but is actively living it.

Case in point: The Miss USA saga (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16211347/)

This young woman - who, if you look at her photo in that article, is indeed a woman, as opposed to a girl, who looks several years older than her age - was "guilty" of "partying hard" and drinking alcohol.

Excuse me, but what the fuck? Is there a law that says women should be "good girls" and not party?? She has just turned 21, so even if she drank alcohol, this would have been just a few months before the American law would legally allow it (not to mention that the whole age restriction of 21 is a uniquely American concept that nobody else agrees with, but that's another story).

Equally telling was the media's reaction. She was instantly asked if she was an "alcoholic". How does drinking alcohol equal alcoholism? Why draw this retarded conclusion?

My point is that an adult young woman got reprimanded and rebuked for "partying" and drinking alcohol. Now you tell me, is this a Puritan country or not? What the fuck is some people's (including Donald Trump's) problem?

Well provide your own logic then. Where else would people seriously censure a young person for partying and having fun? Isn't it the case that we're all human? Only in a Puritan society where Hester Prynne had to wear the scarlet letter "A"

See the thing is, she's Miss USA...she's supposed to represent America on a whole bunch of different levels. When a new Wal-Mart opens in Cracksmoke, Alabama who's there to cut the ribbon? Miss USA! When it's time to break ground on a new park in Toledo who's there to put the shovel in the ground? Miss USA! So clearly, you can see how bad it would look if that alcoholic whore showed up to something as important as a new Wal-Mart opening hung over from the previous nights adventures? Pretty bad, sir. Pretty bad.

She should be given the death sentence!!

Why are you implying she's an alcoholic? I drink plenty of alcohol when I party but I'm not an alcoholic.

RJT, I don't get it, why do you claim she's an alcoholic?
Please show me at least one damning fact about her and I might change my mind.

Denial is a tell-tale sign of alcoholism.

Oh FFS! I officially have to say that there is no longer any doubt in my mind that you are the single most dense individual who has ever existed.

Congrats.

I assume you haven't heard of other somewhat similar situations in other much less "Puritan" countries...

In most countries it is expected for the Misses who represent the country to be perfect and flawless in every possible way.

It's unfortunate that things went this far with the Miss Usa situation but drinking underaged is still well ... not legal which is clearly contrary to this desired image of perfection from the contestants.

And it's really, REALLY fucking sad that you even had to point that out.

You must also be able to comprehend the materials you read in order to take part in intelligent discourse on them (regardless of how much "intelligent discourse" one can actually have on the Miss USA competition). Please note for future reference.

I don't know, I find the whole thing so grotesque and creepy, it's not even funny anymore. Tony Blair's 16-year-old son got piss drunk a few years ago, but everyone in Britain just laughed about it and said "it's all part of growing up and learning". There was no fucking hysteria about it.

God dammit - How many times do you have to be told that just because a news story shows up on CNN.com does NOT mean there is "hysteria" regarding it in the states!

Your perception of the world is seriously fucked m8 - You honestly need your head examined.

Dude if you dislike me so much why the fuck do you keep replying to me? Note that I haven't insulted you a single time, but you've insulted me 3 or 4 times. Just ignore me, how hard is that?!

Your own girlfriend will ban you if you don't stop with your insults, she already warned this forum that it's degrading into a pile of shit, so please... at least I start normal threads that are about discussion and debate and current events, unlike most retards here. And I don't even come here that often, only once in a blue moon. So reserve your anger for someone else.

Oh ffs man, you're missing the point completely, it isn't whether or not I like you at all. I simply get unbelievably irritated with the utter bullshit you post on here. You slag off on America like you're some brilliant sociologist, but in reality the faux intellectual shit you spew is nothing more than distorted facts arranged in a manner to fit your personal anti-American agenda.

The problem is that you so clearly jump headfirst into accussations of "hysteria" that you fail to find any substantial support for your claim, subsequently your argument is instantly torn apart. This is followed by you getting defensive (just like in here) before eventually either deleting the thread or just leaving. It's a vicious cycle you've gotten yourself into on here.

If anything, it's you who's contributing to the pile of shit in here, not me.

Oh, and please do not confuse "logic" with "anger."
