PC sucks ass and this is getting old.

How many of you athiests out there celebrate Christmas? I just think shit like this is stupid and irritating.

quote:
Santa Hat-Wearing Bus Driver Allowed to Keep Job
Ken Mott (Newsday)
A Santa hat-wearing school bus driver on Long Island, N.Y., has won the right to keep wearing his festive headgear, Newsday reported.

Kenneth Mott, who keeps a long, white beard, almost lost his job after a parent called the bus management to complain. Mott, who has worn the red and white hat every Christmas since he started with the Bauman & Sons bus company five years ago, was ordered to stop wearing the hat because a child didn't believe in Santa Claus and was bothered by the hat.

"I said, 'What, are you kidding me?'" Mott recalled. "I thought it was a big joke," Newsday reported.

However, after Mott told other parents he might be fired for wearing the hat, supervisors changed their stance and said he could continue to wear the hat.

NO! Not that damned HAT! Go see a fucking therapist or something if you really have that much of a problem with it.

Why does Faux News hate the baby Jesus?

LOL, I totally agree. Some people take things too serious. I don't believe in any higher power of any sort, but I still celebrate christmas (With my roman catholic family) because it is such a HISTORICAL and MULTICULTURAL holiday that has all types of traditions that have been sampled for over 1000+ years. It's really beautiful and interesting to know where the christmas tree originated, and why eggnog is a tradition, and why we kiss under the mistletoe.

As a Jew living in the USA.
I think is complete ridiculous how people have to be so P.C. and sensitive regarding 'Christmas' (there I said the 'C' word).

I don't care if people wish me Merry Christmas, I enjoy it a little as the people are just simply trying to wish me well.

On the flip note, I think how ridiculous Christmas has become in the USA, has lost almost all its religious meaning (IMO it is more of a secular holiday than the celebration of Jesus b-day) With people spending $100s for pagan trees to put more costly ornaments on, and the bizarre pressure people have in purchasing all there distant relationship thousands of dollars worth of gifts...

If the USA didn't have Christmas, I honestly believe the USA would have a saving culture similar to the Japanese

Actually Christmas as the holiday we know it today is fairly recent creation of the past 50-80 years.

Before then the origins are mostly dark age/medieval where Christians had to 'revup' a holiday to get the Solstice celebrating pagans to accept their religion. Similarly to the way Jews have revved up Hannauka in the USA to make there kids not feel bad about being Jewish and not celebrating Christimas.

Posted by Zild on Dec-21-2006 19:31:

Seriously I hate organized christian churches but I don't give a damn if someone wants to wear a santa hat. Besides that though I do worship the sun upon occasion and December 25th is the birthday of Mithras the Sun God. So I'm kinda in for celebrating that specific date.

Um... Without ancient pagan rituals, christmas would not be what it looks like today. Even santa clause was depicted as a pagan elf riding a goat.

Besides, there's always a healthy $ to make with this beloved Crusade to save the baby Jesus' B-Day:

quote:
For Conservative Christian groups, this years hot gift is a weapon for fighting back in the War on Christmas, be it a button, a bumper sticker or a memo with advice to the troops.

The Mississippi-based American Family Association says it has sold more than 500,000 buttons and 125,000 bumper stickers bearing the slogan Merry Christmas: Its Worth Saying.

The Alliance Defense Fund, a Christian legal aid group that boasts a network of some 900 lawyers standing ready to defend Christmas, says it has moved about 20,000 Christmas packs. The packs, available for a suggested $29 donation, include a three-page legal memo and two lapel pins.

And Liberty Counsel, a conservative law firm affiliated with the Rev. Jerry Falwell, says it has sold 12,500 legal memos on celebrating Christmas and 8,000 of its own buttons and bumper stickers.

http://www.rightwingwatch.org/2006/...xtremely_p.html

Got a calculator?:

quote:
Basic math says the Liberty Counsel has pulled in an estimated $300,000+, the Alliance Defense Fund an estimated $500,000+, and the American Family Association an estimated $600,000+ from selling their War on Christmas wares.

http://www.rightwingwatch.org/2006/...xtremely_p.html

Nothing like a healthy $ to pick up while smearing those damn atheist secularist bastards! That's exactly what Jesus would do, at least that's what my pastor at my 8,000+ mega-church told me.....

I've seen several signs here in the south saying "Put the Christ back in Christmas".

I laughed and laughed

Then I tore them out of the ground and threw them away.

Boo. hoo.

Seriously, does it really matter?

There's a judge here in Toronto that seriously getting a smackdown from the public after he ordered a Christmas Tree be taken down.

All local major media has polls on this and every single one that asked if the judge was wrong had a YES vote by over 94%.

Are we expected to walk on egg-shells for everyone?

I got a better idea, grow up!

I don't disagree with you at all really, but the point that I'm attempting to make here (and perhaps at the expense of Shakka's story, sorry about that) is that while I agree the PC stories are ridiculous on the face of things, they tend to continue being the exception and not the rule.

However, you listen to Slanthead (aka Hannity) or O'Reilly, or a number of GOP blowhards, they tend to portray another picture altogether - an all-out war against Christians. So I like showing just how fucking hypocritical they can be in the process, and how silly their bombastic claims are overall. Yes these instances are annoying, but they are a far cry from the typical religious-baiting "I-such-a-victim-of-society" fundie Christian mentality certain blowhards are attempting to portray.

Refuse to wear the santa hat, I tied little bells on the ends of my dreads, all it succeeded in doing was irritating my cousins and started the drinking game of drink, until drunk and throw me in the pool because I tinkled too loud.

Sure they do, you forgetting Eid ? Oh and Dec 25th is the Roman pagan holiday Saturnalia, not the Jewish chaps birthday, that was much earlier. sometime between June and May I think .

EDIT: Well, to be fair, a Jewish chap does have his birthday on the 25th (of December), Sir Isaac Newton .

Posted by Lilith on Dec-26-2006 10:28:

Eid huh... ah give it time and corporate marketing will be so far up your bum and into your wallets you'll be broke, sick of it all and have your religous holidays turned into a sullied mockery just like everyone elses!
The best memories I have of jesus, being I went to a christian school for a time was reminding the english nuns that the pictures of jesus where wrong, because he wasnt black enough.
Then they'd cane me or put me on detention... ah nothing like ignorance, dogma and the occassional beating to knock any sense of spirituality out of a young person
