PQM's cover of Led Zepp

Let's talk about it.

Hmm the original Prince Quick Mix is more than 10 years old by now.. i got a copy of it on whitelabel back in '95. Great mix tho.

I've enjoyed playing both the new PQM mixes as of late, the original does still stand head and shoulders above the rest though.

The one thing that I've enjoyed about them more than anything is that they lend themselves very well to long, drawn out mixes. Throw a high pass filter on it and let the vocals ride over an incoming (or outgoing) tune that's harmonically compatible and you can get a pretty unreal sounding transition.

I love the breaks mix.

No love for Schulz's mix? I'm actually enjoying it more than the others right now.

In hindsight, I don't think it's particularly bad, it just didn't pique my interest.

well, the original is great. but, yeah, i like the phil k & nubreed remix, and i can't wait to get my hands on the vinyl.

It's not bad at all.

You're in a laconic mood today.

I think I'm the only one who thinks that none of the remixes can touch the original.

Actually, almost everyone thinks that. Every time a classic gets remixed, in fact.

I'm not talking PQM, I'm talking Led Zeppelin.

I'm perfectly aware of that.

ta. it rings a bell now, just couldn't think which one it was. So long as they leave over the hills (and far away) alone

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Dec-22-2006 00:53:

A glance at Discogs reveals some complexities to this whole issue. Apparently the Quivver mix of Babe I'm Gonna Leave You may actually have been done by PQM, as well as several other remixes of it out there. Which is probably where this confusion over the "original" comes in, because I thought these were PQM's first mixes of the track.

Good mix ....but he isnt limited to just this one...multiple re-mixes and originals (and not a half bad DJ at that)

+ effin' one.

What a great tune. Zeppelin at their finest imo.

yeah, i'm all for edm remixing rock when they can add something, but some tunes are just perfect as are & touching them would be a great injustice both on the remixer & original artist.

I think this might be what has happened ->

PQM did his original remix back in early-mid 90s and some years later Quivver reworked PQM's mix (don't call Johnny Vicious here who also remixed the track back in the mid 90s). I think so because all or at least most of the "Quivver mixes" i have heard on different releases over the years, also the one Oakey used in "Another World" mix CD, for the most part sound very much like the PQM mix i have on the yee olde whitey. I believe that's where the mixup originates from. Quivver's mix seems to be more of an update of the original PQM mix than a fully new remix.

Now in recent years, PQM returned to the track to remix it again among a few other remixers, to give it a bit different twist from his original take on it. And yes i do like Zeppelin's original the most as well.

Cheers for that Grim, as ever. Although Led Zepp's version was actually a cover in itself, like a lot of their tracks.

Everything by Led Zeppelin it's Perfect =)

I don't think an EDM Remix of any rock classic pretends to be better than the original, it's just an Electronic interpretation of the song, but still if you are going to remix it, it should be awesome, not an "ok" Remix.

I think all the remixes of Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Are "ok", it's a cool song, but nothing impressing.
