noob question (i'm sorry)
Ok, so i used search and looked in the manual but i can't seem to find a clear answer. I'm pretty sure i know, but i don't want to fuck up and get the wrong thing. So, i just got my first hardware synth and i need to get an interface. Do i need something with both audio and midi capabilities, or will just midi work? I'm sorry, please dont kill me.
Have you bought a cow yet? It wont work without a cow, you know.
hey congrats on your new buy! what kind of synth is it?
anyway, you need an interface with audio capabilities if you want to record the sound, and you also will need a preamp.
im at work right now so i cant really do any research, but my setup is a PCI audio card with no preamps + a mackie mixer.

google it mate most people work on desktop computers.
You need midi and audio. The way you rig a harware synth is you run the midi out of your computer into the midi in of the synth and the audio out of the synth into the audio in of the computer. midi goes into the synth and audio comes out. this applies to all hardware without usb cables and the like. This allows you to draw notes in in your daw and edit your midi. Also it allows you to change the sound of the recording without having to re record the midi. Congrats on your purchase!

You defintately need midi, unless you're some piano expert who plays everything perfect the first time. The cables don't cost much and most semi-pro audio cards provide a midi i/o
