Altitude -Excession messed up bpm

Okay this is driving me nuts! I bought altitude -excession from juno.co.uk and its the one record that seems to change bpm in the intro of the track. The big problem is, that when you mix, you kinda use the intro. I tested this a few times and noticed that the first 16 or 32 bars the bpm is fine. A few bars before the wicked uplifting sound, the bpm ****ing changes to be slower. WTF!!!!!!! Its so annoying cause im mixing this in and its all fine for the 32 bars, the beats are matched perfectly, now after that the record just slows down, i dont know why!!!

Any advice? should i send it back to juno?

Don't send it back; it's the track. My copy does this as well and I got it from a record shop, not juno.

You just have to be careful with it, and adjust on the fly as needed. Once you get it right, just think: if you can mix this track, that actually changes tempo, you can mix anything!

i kinda feel like breaking the record but dont wanna cause its a great tune.

whos idea was it to screw up the bpm on a great tune? Whos behind altitude?

its steve gibbs. hes awesome. i didnt notice this, i just thot i couldnt mix that song for some reason..

you guys ARE talking about the 2001 version with the blackwatch dub on the flip side, right?

How is it possible to slow a RECORD down while it's spinning??
I mean like how did they do it when they pressed them??

The only thing I can think of is that when they cut the original dubplate the platter got slowed down for some reason while it was spinning. It can't be anything to do with the way they were pressed; they just get a lump of soft/melting vinyl and stamp it with an inverse image of the original.

I don't think my version has the Blackwatch Dub on it - I never play the B side, but I can't be sure as I'm currently 200 miles away from my record box

but its excession 2001, and not the original excession right?

they're different tracks (in case anyone wants to argue with me)

im curious now

Mine is:

Altitude - Excession (orginal mix) and the (blue velvet remix)
2001 Lightning Records Uk
2001 Big Fish Music
XTC Music for the mind

the blue velvet remix seems okay for the bpm, just the orginal mix

Yes, this is the version I have. So if patticus has a different version, it must be the track itself, and not just a bad dub-plate cutting or something.

Hi
I've been wondering if any of you has any idea about Altitude - excession (dave aude mix) .. i downloaded it off the AG but i can't seems to find info about it anywhere else.. the track is simply amazing! get it if u haven't heard it .. much better than the original IMO!

Posted by patticus on Mar-27-2002 18:12:

my bad, i have the blue velvet mix i guess there's no blackwatch dub... but ya i have the 2001 mix of excession

Posted by Kid_Lax on Mar-27-2002 19:05:

im not sure which copy of excession i have

im too lazy to check...but i do know that the vinyl sleeve is white with a bunch of clouds on it or something?
i dunno...but it has the original on it

and i noticed this too
the bpm's slow down drastically and it throws me right off

i planned on having that track in my demo and i kept messing up because of that mix...

so yeah...i have no clue why its like that...but its a bitch and a half to mix

so it slows down in the 2001 remix of it also??
