Mixing using A&H's VCF filters?

anyone got any tips on how to do this, something i'd be interested in learning about. Any tutorials/guides anywhere?

i just got my Xone92 and ive been messing around with mostly the HPF.

what i find is a nice trick while mixing is to turn it on for the incoming track for 4 beats then off, while turning it on for outgoing track for 4 beats. keep doin this to do a nice cutting effect.

thanx for the tip, will try that out when it turns up. Anybody else??? van Dyk does it alot in his essential mix from coloursfest, just wondering if there are any tips / videos amywhere on how it is done

its pretty straightforward man.

ie. cue up your track. before bringing it in, activate the HPF, and turn the knob all the way to the right. normally i have the filter intensity setting on WILD. then, fade your track in with the fader, and then, fade it in more by using the filter knob to gradually deactivate the HPF.

with the LPF and MPF, the knob action is reversed (ie. all the way to the left = no sound AT ALL, unlike the HPF that keeps a little sound when all the way in) so be careful. just activate it, have your knob all the way left, open your fader, then fade the track in with the filter knob.

sounds good and is pretty simple. also fun to play with when both tracks are playing.

i don't see why not. i've never used a 32, but it seems to me it's the same filter unit, only instead of a frequency knob, you have a fader.

Yeah, I use the high pass filter a lot when mixing.

I keep the resonance around the 2 pm mark, at that setting it sounds basically the same with the filter on and off.

When I bring the filter over on the outgoing track, sometimes I'll crank the resonance up slowly, gives it a nice wooshing sound and is pretty subtle.

I've also been having a lot of fun lately using the "notch" filter. Engage both the high and low pass filters, and play around with the resonance and frequency knobs. The effect is subtle but effective. Engaging the LFO will give you a neat warbly sound.

cute labels, probably in reference to how accented teh frequency is @ the cutoff point.

i'll be in the market for a new mixer soon, and was thinking of getting an ecler nuo2, but all this filter talk has made me curious about a xone32. The thing is, I dont know what these filters do, or what they sound like, and because of where I live, i cant easily go demo one.

If any of you all had any free time, could you take a well known house/trance track, and apply the filters at various points, and then post an mp3 recording of it?

Then i could know what is so great about these filters.
