are you serious about the pitch? ..anyways.. Cartridge is the "needle" and yes u need it. And you do need the pitch since all songs are not created equal.

thanks...i dont understand what you are saying about the pitch...i mean i control the pitch with my hand (?!)

To be able to mix two records seamlessly into each other you have to adjust the speed of one of the records so that it's running more or less exactly as fast as the other. You do this by adjusting the pitch. Why? Not a lot of tunes are created with equal tempos. Therefore one of the tracks will, as you do the transition, begin to slide "out of sync" with the other, and it will sound really terrible. I wish I had my turntables where I am now, if I did I would post a sound clip so that you could hear what I mean.

What I really, really recommend you to do, is to read some articles about basic DJing. Try for example the tutorial section of IVibes (www.ivibes.de), it has some easy-to-understand tutorials on basic mixing. And remember to start with tutorial 1.

Good luck!

if you adjust the pitch with your hand, it will be extreemly inaccurate and impossible to keep records going at the same speed for long (if at all). You need the pitch slider, its an essential part of a DJ turntable.. The cartridge is the thing that the needle is in.. it connectes to the tonearm by 4 wires. the actual needle on a cartridge is called a stylus. If you want 2 turntables for $800 CND, new.. I would get the Stanton STR8-60's. It would of course be better if you found the STR8-80's used somewhere.. or an equivilant brand. If you want a powerfull turntable, almost equal to the technics 1200, but for only like $450 (new) I suggest the Microh Cyan TT.. a no-name brand, so I dont really recommend it.. but you are getting alot more power than with the Stantons.
