Paul van Dyk at Space Miami (3/24/02)........WOW!!!!

Well, I just came back from the WMC. Ultra was AWESOME!!!! The whole ezdreamer.com crew (about 24 of us) got there at 2 and we pretty much spent most of the time in the Progressive arena....which surpsingly was the least populated throughout the whole event. fine by me....more room to dance and be a dj whore . The order was all fucked up and a lot of DJ's there were a no show. as a result....Mick Wilson played early and John Graham played for 3 hours......he had the BEST set out of the entire festival. John Graham just blew my mind away dropping a lot of wicked beats and breaks and dark trance and progressive. Max Graham came on next for a brief but bangin' set and then Dave Ralph kept it up with some great progressive trance. Josh Wink then DJ 3 followed and both almost put me to sleep.

I briefly saw Scott Bond who SUCKED my left nut. Briefly saw Alex Gold who was really really good. Markus Schultz was AWESOME. I checked out BT for a bit and he trainwrecked every other mix but his track selection was really good. Tiesto was crap. and even PvD who closed the festival was blah to me. I wasn't too moved by his short 50 min set at all. I recorded it on my MD player but it came out a little to bassy.

Sunday night most of us went to PvD at Space. we were the FIRST people to set foot in the door. The opening DJ Jerry Bonham was fucking fantastic. he played just pure dark tech house ala Digweed and you couldn't help but groove to him. The second DJ was a new space resident who was ok at first but his track selection went way downhill as his set progressed.

as for PvD.....I will definitely write a more in depth review later....but for now.......let me just say that I've seen him a total of 19 times now, and this was the BEST set I've EVER heard in my life. He was just AMAZING!

His set started out dark and banging. Lots of prog house, deep house and he played LOTS of breaks all night long. 2 hours of new dark progressive beats and then the set took on a deeper tone and he just played the sickest music.....I wouldn't even call it trance so much as PvD's own style of mind-bending, jizz-inducing melodica. after about 3 hours or so the BPM's were kicked up a notch and he started playing some of his signature tunes and some old classics. He ended 6 and a half hours later with Gaia - 4 elements. I lost my voice from screaming all night and I still haven't come to terms with how good that set was.

Here's the tracklist I came up with. I'm missing about 3-4 hours of new music that I've never heard before. In the first hour alone I only knew the first two tracks I listed.

Timo Maas Ubik (The Dance)
Joker Jam Innocence (PvD remix)
Jimpy Feeling Good (new remix)
JB Unknown Origin
Star Rock Rose (Filterheadz remix)
Alibi Eternity (Thrillseekers New Horizon remix)
Ralphie B Massive (PvD rework)
Zero 7 - Distractions (Bugz In The Attic mix)
R.Goodie & Tasha Baxter In the beginning
James Holden Solstice
Second Sun Unknown (new track 1)
Second Sun Unknown (new track 2)
Liquid State feat Marcella Woods Falling (Hernan Cataneo mix)
Nu Breed Food For Thought (Dark Alley mix)
Humate Vivid
Starecase See
Solid Sleep Club Attack (PvD remix)
Minimalistix Close Cover (Filterheadz remix)
Pat Foosheen Automation
Space Brothers Everywhere I Go (PvD remix)
Way Out West The Gift (Nick Warrens new club mix)
Aquanuts Deep Sea (Martin Eyerer remix)
Beber & Tamra You Wonder
Blank and Jones Secrets and Lies (Saints & Sinners remix)
Paul van Dyk Suzann
Connector Interference (PvD remix)
Ascension For A Lifetime (Coast 2 Coast mix)
Paul van Dyk Vega (Starecase remix)
Solicitous Furthermost
Ayumi Hamasaki - M (Above & Beyond mix)
Blank & Jones Secrets and Lies (Solid Sessions remix)
Lustral Everytime (Nalin & Kane remix)
Solar Stone Seven Cities (Atlantis mix)
Chicane Autumn Tactics (Thrillseekers remix)
Paul van Dyk Another Way (Club mix)
4 Strings Into the night
Gaia 4 Elements (closed with this)

Hot digidy,
Sounds awesome, I wish Paul will come to play for us here in Israel once.
Unfotunatly no club can afford him, anyway this looks like a wicked set.
You have any idea where it can be downloaded?

Yeah it was an AMAZING set. Unfortunately I was just trainspotting throughout the entire 6 and a half hours that he played. I only knew about 35 tracks. There's at least 40 or more tracks that I've never heard before that were interspersed in between there. I don't know if it was recorded though I did record his ultra set which was very poor imo.

Ok, I understand
Paul has his way to make the crowd go nuts, part of the thing is to play the well known and the well unknown tracks out there
I hope I will be able to find a place which holds this gem of a set for all of us Tranceaddics
Till next time

Hey man Paul came to israel once but i dont remember what club he played in
Anyway he wouldnt come to israel not because clubs can't afford him...
he won't come because of the situation between us and the arabs
but thats not because he's afraid that's because of the "war"

OK.. If it went as you said .. Where did he finds all the good "unknown" tunes to play? Why do many DJs start spinning breaks now? Hoe many record bags did he carry with him? ????

I know the guy behind Second Sun, his name is Antoine. He's finished the B side track to "Empire" and he's done a new track....both of which he said that pvd dropped. I'll find out the names of the tunes soon and post them here. There's also about 40-45 odd tracks that I've never heard before that aren't even on that list. I just listed the ones that I recognized. PvD has ALWAYS spun breaks when he spins long sets. At Twilo he used to drop breaks ALL the time. I didn't see how many record bags he had with him but he had 5 bodyguards rush him out of space after his set with a huge mob of people following and a couple of the bodyguards were carrying his cases.

Patticus, "Ubik" was his second track. I don't know what the first track he dropped was. His whole first hour was new musik that I didn't know....the only other track in that hour that I recognized was "Innocence". I LOVE "Suzann", I think it's a phat ass track.

Vinylgroovah, I think I remember you....where you with a whole bunch of other asians and one white girl? I was there with about 17 other people...we were standing near the bathroom of the front room until they opened the doors to the main room.

VOP.....I'll definitely be at SF tomorrow for PvD.....if he plays as good as he was in Miami I'll be the happiest guy alive.
