I started out on software (Traktor Dj) and now I play on cd decks. Some of the software is easy to use cause it does alot for you. What software are you planning on using? There are tutorial sites about djing, but I don't have them bookmarked, so hopefully someone will post a couple in here. |
mixing software: I used to mix on VirtualDJ http://www.virtualdj.com/
now i mix on CD.
this software starts in a very basic mode for beginners:
then when you are ready, change skins and have all the features available that you would have on actual CD decks.
here is the skin I use:

with the proper sound card setup you can use headphones to monitor your VirtualDJ mix before it goes live....JUST LIKE A REAL DJ! haha
and guess what....EVERY function is MIDI controllable (external mixing console, etc).
have fun!
oh look at that............my beats aren't matched!

Hmm. Didn't know it actually overlayed the waveforms. I guess that could come in handy...
if allyou want to do to is mix mp3s from ur computer, id suggest getting sumthin like the hercules dj console. that will get you through the basics, ul have to buy sum software like tracktor or sumthin to go with it, dont think you get any with it.
will be more hands on that software alone plus you will be able to moniter ur tracks without the need for 2 soundcard as its a soundcard in itself.
How about :
Torq Mixlab
I don't really know what the "LE" version of Torq limits you to, but I do like the full version (though I use an external mixer and control vinyl).
I also like how the interface resembles a DJ mixer, so if you decide to upgrade to decks and a traditional mixer in the future you'll be a bit better off.
oh i forgot. you can control VirtualDJ with "time-coded" vinyls too...but not my area.
you can check the VDJ forums...
Can someone just tell me the Brand Name and Model of the DJ SET for
Beginner.....cox yesterday I went to SamAsh to try get one...but I
really dont know how to explain to the Sales....even they dont know
what I exactly need.....
