I Am Lucky to be Alive!!!

Yesterday, I was in a serious car accident that nearly claimed me my life.

I was driving to pick up my brother from work and it was about 4:30 in the afternoon. Just as it turned to dusk, my eyes were beginning to close. The first two times, I opened my eyes with no problems. The third time was sudden and in just three seconds...
I SMASHED RIGHT INTO A PHONE POLE, AND WAS NEARLY CRUSHED BY IT!

I was literally screaming for my life. Luckilly somebody was there to call 911. There was glass all over my coat and pants from the impact. The whole time i was awake. It took around 30 minutes for the EMS people to get me out of my dad's car, because the power had to be turned off. I had to wear a neck brace (which was really uncomfortable) as well as lying in a stretcher the same amount of time it took to get me out and into the hopital.

My injuries though were minor. A laceration to the head, a sore neck and a bruised knee. It couldv'e been worse as that night couldv'e been my last.

whiplash is going to be a bitch, mine didn't set in until a month or so after the accident. Hope it won't be a problem, glad you're ok!

I don't know where I would even begin to cope with the shame from killing another human being with my car just because I was being negligent.

Right now im still in New York in my old house.

The reason why i crashed was because i wasn't aware of a medication i have been recently taking. I took the pill at 1pm and 4.5 hours later, it was still having an effect. The result, i became drowsy and then the rest was history.

good to hear you're relatively ok. Nothing serious.

Ouch, that sucks. As long as you made it out alive, that's pretty much all that counts.

I was in a fender bender 2 months ago and although the police officer that saw the accident determined it was the other guys fault, I felt at fault for looking down for 1 1/2 sec and having to slam on my brakes causing the car 2 cars behind me to slam into the car behind me, causing it to hit me. I still feel bad about it today. Luckily no one was hurt really. Made me realize how negligent I had been for always looking away from the road to mess with my cd player n shit. It's good to hear you weren't too seriously hurt Halex.

next time either open a window when your tired. or bring some caffeine drink for on the way. maybe its just better to have some sleep before you go somewhere. anyway hope your ok mate, and dont let it happen again

You shouldn't feel guilty at all. Over here, it's never your fault when you're rear-ended. All drivers are responsible for keeping a safe distance between their cars and the cars ahead of them. Safe distance of course means having and adequate distance for braking in the time of need. So you might have been checking your CD player, but so could have they, instead should have seen you stop abruptly and would have stopped on time.

I just felt bad that if I was driving more carefully, the wreck most likely wouldn't have happened.
