The purpose of the "dj" is completely lost when all you do is staring on those stupid laptops screens...and forgets that the crowd is the centre, the ones you should be looking at.

What a ridiculous thing to say. You look at a laptop screen just as you would look at a record whilst altering it's pitch. Are you saying a DJ should never look down at the turntables either?

The DJ not acting like he's a fucking god might help as a first step in getting rid of fucking DJ worshipping.

LOL.

How are you supposed to mix if you cant look at the screen?

I mean, it applies to cd/turntable decks too...you still have to look at the platter/record in order to see what youre mixing and from where youre mixing/changing the pitch.

Just as Mikey said. Ya people gotta face up and realize that technology is shifting towards directions many people wouldnt have thought years back. People are going to much easier and more versatile equipment wether it be software or hardware.

Whatever lets you react and move the crowd better.

Not to quote you a billionth time, but do you realize that when DJs mix with Live, they look up and have time to chill more often than with decks?

Posted by bas on Jan-07-2007 03:07:

He's not better...he's actually far far worse. I thought he only used Ableton when doing his Essential Selection, but when I saw him in Ibiza he busted out the laptop. Not sure if it was just an off night for him or what, but I left after the first 15 mins. And I used to love Pete Tong so much

Don't talk out of your ass now. You've never even gone clubbing that I know of.

Why does the DJ need to even acknowledge anyone on the dancefloor?

I dont get entertainment from watching DJs, I get entertainment from the music they play. Who gives a shit how much time they spend with their head down concentrating? If the end result on the speakers is better...then I say excellent...

I think your word choice could have been better here. Of course a DJ has to acknowledge the crowd... that's his job lol. playing muzik for ze people to dance to...

Two. He opened with Proper Eductaion (woo) and mixed (rather poorly) into another track...I knew the track at the time but it escapes me now. And he also decided to play some acapella over the track, some girls that kept saying "pete tong" adn something else. It was ok, but Lawler was just so great and Tongy really took the energy down a few notches. I took off.

Come on guys as if Pete Tong is who you go see now a days for the most hip tunes

He's like a non-stop MoS mixed session, just fromage tune after fromage tune with the odd bomb tossed in that makes the place go nuts!

Don't get me wrong I love the guy as a personality and a DJ but he's not exactly a benchmark DJ anymore, ahahaha, he's just a huge icon!

Prolly fackin fun to party with though, and prolly annoys the shit out of some of the Djs he broadcasts live with for the EM, he always starts yelling in the middle of Seb Fontaine's breakdowns, LOL.
