**** Detox

Ok, in my whole newfound freedom/singleness...I went out last night with a group of friends.

Needless to say, I'm 20 and it was a Friday night...of course I was hammered.

In a nutshell, we left the party and my friend was driving us home. She proooooobably shouldn't have been driving if you want to get technical, but she was near sober. I am extremely anti-drunk driving, and I felt that she was equipped enough to get us safely home.

So, 4 friends and I drive home. We get pulled over by a cop, she gets a DUI and is taken off...I still haven't talked to her. The rest of us get handcuffed and put in cop cars. I'm riding in the cop car with my friend Val, and she's sitting there complaining about guys to the cop and won't shut the fuck up. He brings us to DETOX, but realizes she's too rowdy when she starts arguing with him. Therefore, I'm by myself at DETOX, and she goes to the drunk tank. Haven't talked to her yet, or my other 2 friends that were in the car.

So the deal with DETOX is that you have to blow a .05 to leave. THIS PLACE IS TWO MOTHERFUCKING BLOCKS AWAY FROM MY APARTMENT!!!! I don't own a car so there's no threat of me driving drunk if they let me go...but noooooo, I had to stay there all night, chugging water to sober up.

Ugh, this country is so flawed. I understand DUI's, but to imprison me for the night when I live so close is retarded. Now they are going to inform my school of my citation, and my uni has a "three strikes you're out" policy.

Fuck the pooooooolice.

Well, the night wasn't a total loss. I made out with my friend that I've been crushing on hardcore for almost two years. Yayyyyy.

So, how was everyone else's night?

I bet this wouldn't have happened in Latvia.

Fuck The Police. Start making connections and they will let go just because of your name.

In all honesty it was a good move for them to make you sober up before you went home. Don't bash the popo over it. I've had it done to me a few times and it's not a bad thing.

1- Your friends fault, she wasn't sober
2-that does kinda suck you lived THAT close
3-So what, they held you over night to sober up, at least you know got home safe.

Kudos for the making out part.

Posted by Caela on Jan-06-2007 17:05:

There's one other fucked up part:

When we first got pulled over, and after the cops gave my friend (whom was driving) a sobriety test, they asked all of us if we could drive the car home. We all were truthful and said no. They then said, "well just to check, can you take breathalizers?".

I looked at the cop and said, "if I take this, and I blow over the legal limit, will I get a citation?".

He said, "no".

Once again, fuck the police. Once I realized I was getting in trouble I started in on him...no offense to anyone that has ties to a cop...but you must be a pretty fucked up control freak to become one. Most of them DO NOT better the community, they write out citations left and right. I guess they got picked on too much when they were kids...

The alcohol laws in our country are SO STUPID...yeah real effective...seeing as it's Saturday night later and I'm getting shitfaced.

Useless to whine about something that was completely your own fault.

I don't see how any of this is fucked up at all.

I just think it's rediculous to give a 20 year old (without a car) a drinking citation yet I can get killed in war, rack up thousands of dollars in credit card debt, of fuck a 60 year old man if I wanted to (...I don't). This country has such a double standard.

You should do something to change it.

How is that a double standard? Isn't your legal drinking age 21? They had every right to give you a citation.

I think you're being a little extreme. The law is the law, plain and simple.

I'm surprised young people haven't already taken serious action to lower the drinking age.

Well, Vermont is always on the forefront of liberalism...mind as well start here.

Posted by DJ Mikey Mike on Jan-06-2007 17:27:

Why the FUCK do you get done when you weren't even driving? For all they knew, you might not have even been aware of the fact that your driver wasn't sober. I fucking HATE America.

It's a double standard because, being over 18, I am granted plenty of rights and responsibility...yet consuming a beer or a glass of wine leaves me with a ticket.

Agreed. But I do totally understand where she's coming from.

Posted by Frenchie on Jan-06-2007 17:28:

Minors are always going to want to lower the drinking age. There is no need to. I'm sure it's set the way it is for a reason.

You're 20, you just need to be more careful as to what you and and where you do it.

So do I. But this is a typical reaction from anyone who doesn't want to be accountable for their actions. Wah bloody wah.

You live in Toronto where the drinking age is 19. I'm going to assume that your college campuses are composed of kids that are all able to drink.

Here, to split up a campus 50/50 with kids that are over and under 21 DOES NOT WORK. There's no way you're going to keep the under 21 from drinking. So, why is the law trying to swim against the tide? Obviously the drinking age being 21 is not effective.

It's not like I am contesting my ticket. I am admitting what I did was "wrong" in the state of law...I'm expressing my opinion as to why I think it's utterly insane that the US has laws in place if they are not followed by the majority of young people.

Posted by DJ Mikey Mike on Jan-06-2007 17:38:

What would have happened if you were the right age, and was in the same car of someone who was driving drunk? Would they just send you on your way after arresting the driver, or would you still have to have gone to this clinic place?

I never understood why anyone under 21 would even chance the drinking and driving. Drinking under 21 is easy, you just stay at someone's house or whatever and get fucked up. It's when you want to try and be brave that the shit hits the fan. You lot had it coming.

On a side note, I was piss drunk night with Clovis and had to drive all the way from the club to his house (easily 15 miles or so) and I got pulled over about a block from his house. Luckily they gave Clovis the field sobriety test and not me....even though I was driving

Posted by Frenchie on Jan-06-2007 17:39:

Well I'm used of the 18+ drinking law, but that's besides the point.

Yes, most of the people on my campus were 19, some " right out of HS kids " so they were 18 ish.

I understand your point to a certain extent, but I'm just saying, the drinking age shouldn't have to be changed. when you're legal and you have some youngin' complain to you, you'll see where we are coming from.
