Smiley DJ What/When was the last "RAVE" you went to????

Now I mean RAVE, aka DANCE PARTY. Not a DJ at a club but an actual Rave:

EDIT: I didn't start this thread because I haven't been flamed in awhile. Nor did I to offend anybody or to say that you can't call "The Guv" a rave if you want to. (by yourself alone in a closet) Simply a question for those it aplied to is all. No more, no less.

Please define a "Rave". Are we talking Raves of the early '90's? Late 90's? Any all age, all night party with edm?

Last early 90's style rave I went to was in 2004. I went to an abondoned warehouse at Landsdowne and Dundas. The organizers broke in and threw a party in a concrete room complete with exposed pipes, dripping water and extremely unsafe conditions... damn it was great!

Last "Late 90's" rave I went to was last summer WEMF.

Care to expand on that?

Edit(much later): It was a good read. No mention of rabbits however... From now on, I will call you "Nester"

LOL YES! That's the type. Exactly. How about Masonic Temple? I wonder how many people here at TA know about the school bus at city hall?

how is a dj playing at a club not a "dance party"?
i think the definition of 'rave' has changed over the years. back in the early years of rave it was hosted in warehouses and transportation was by shuttle bus. those days no longer exist because if something should happen then there could be some serious insurance issues if the oragnizer is caught. i would consider an afterhour club as a rave now because thats what the rave has evolved to; electronic dance music and partiers dancing all night. plus all the lighting and sound equipment is already in place and they have insurance and sufficient security.

to answer your question: last weekend.

last weekend = Never
That's precisely the point. "Dance Party" never meant going to a bar and all of those things that your afraid of were simply mystique back then and all the more reason to go. The pragmatics had nothing to do with all that and everything to do with if you had enough power for the tables And the lights. Or making sure the drug recovery stations were well marked out and fully stocked with staff, pamphlets, water and fruit-kabobs as well as the reason why DJ music proliferated to what it is now AND why Toronto USED to be known as one of the top 5 towns to play if you were a DJ. My question wasn't meant to invalidate your experiences. Maybe this thread wasn't for you, I dunno...

Good answer

Some ridiculous abandoned underground like-dungeon last Halloween. The event was supposedly the last "Nightmare" as they revived it from its death from a few years back. This was the first and very last attempt that I ever make at even considering attending these so-called "Raves" you speak of. I need not go into details as to why this was such a pathetic attempt of a party; all I can say is it was the saddest experience in my EDM history.

Ok, I'm really sorry but I have a few comments/corrections

1) In the early years of rave transportation was not by shuttle bus (I think you are actually referring to mid-late 90s). Early raves were more underground. Parties that came later (such as Hullabaloo) were considered commercial raves and different from the 'early years'.

2) The large raves of the mid-late 90s don't exist in Toronto for reasons such as rave laws (and various other reasons). Insurance issues are mostly a side note. For example, Harvest festival is insured and it's on a farm (but not in Toronto).

3) It is true that the large raves of the late 90s no longer exist, however, there are still some parties that are very much like the ones in the early years (early 90s). There is still an underground scene in Toronto (it's just not very big).

4) Clubs like the Guv and Afterhours are NOT raves.

While the EDM scene is changing that doesn't mean that an afterhours club is now a rave. The vibe is different, the people are different, and the music is different.

While I went to Darkrave just this weekend I consider that more of a mainstream type commercial rave. I think that real (underground) raves have very little rules and don't happen in clubs/legal venues.

Last yr was my last Rave ...

I usually go once or two a year. It's diff now, but at least I kinda / somewhat brings back the feeling of partyin' for me.

Posted by LittlePoonzgirl on Jan-09-2007 01:09:

Oh yeah , and the last rave I 'went to' I never actually made it to (long story...it was a very crazy night and the party got busted then moved). I guess that means the last underground party I went to was in the summer.

I go to commercial raves all the time though.
