MTLNIGHTS INTERVIEW WITH SAEED YOUNAN

So as we have seen in 2006 you released your album and compilation
"REMIXED" What future projects can we expect from you in 2007?

Lots of new projects on the burner for 07. I'm doing some remixes for
Audacious Records (Dave Aude label). Remixes for N.Y Love (Creamer and K
label). My "how does it feel" remix that was featured on my REMIXED
album will finally see the light this year on Tweek'd records. I'm also
going to have some original production released on 4kenzo Records
(Mastik Soul Label), and few other European labels in the works.

There has been a revamp or revival in the tribal sound some may say,
particularly with the Iberican sounds and the young talent coming out of
South America. What approaches are you taking in bringing a new sound to
what you are already well known for?

I'm constantly looking and listening to new stuff, and trying to see
what people are doing and using.
I love experimenting with samples and tweaking sounds. So, pushing the
"tribal" sound farther out, is nothing new to me. I've been doing this
since the early 90's. and it's great to be part of something that's
constantly evolving.

The Winter Music Conference is quickly approaching once again, are
there any parties that you will be playing at to look out for? And is
there anything planned in regards to your digital label Younan Music for
the WMC 07?

Nothing planned yet, I've been going to the Music Conference for 15
years. and every year it becomes less about business, and more about
partying. I know lots of Labels and DJ's not going this year due to same
reason. It's not very productive for us business wise. But, we'll see
how it goes...maybe we will do a party.

Speaking of your label, Younan Music: a digital label for a digital
world. What upcoming releases or artists can we expect?[B]

2007 is gonna be HUGE for YM. Weve got some killer releases lined up,
and some special surprises that I can't talk about now. (Youll see soon)

We've got Ronny Van D killing it on beatport with his single 'ping
pong'..along with my remix

we've got Essam Gawish "hunting you" coming out in feb. Nikos Toscani
"deep in your soul" out in March.
and D-Angelo & Christian Vila "Against the flow" end of march as well.

[B]How has the digital label been working out? Has it been easier or
difficult to run as compared to your previous label Addictive records
which at that time were only pressing vinyl.

Its got it's ups and downs. I'm old school, I love vinyl...so working
with a digital label is kinda crazy at first.
But, I love it, I've got good devoted cats like Luke Native and Mike Kim
in my corner to help the label shine.
Younan Music was one of the first ever digital label, everyone thought
having a digital only label is a joke at first, but soon realized that
it's the way to go, other vinyl labels started paying attention to us
and did the same thing when first thought we were crazy. kinda funny
really -hahahah.

As we all know the digital revolution has been in place for quite some
time. What impact do you think this has had in regards to the DJ culture
and the art form that DJs tend to display when they play out live?

Djing is an art, no matter how you do it, weather it's with Vinyl, CD's,
or Laptop. You're still creating art, programming music or a set of
music. That's the great thing about DJing. there is no one way to do it,
and isn't that what art is all about?

Finally this Thursday is the event with Luke Native @ Tribe Hyperclub,
where else can people find out more info about yourself and releases from
Younan Music?

I'm definitely looking forward to my gig at Tribe Hyper club, especially
spinning with Luke.
it's gonna be good times for sure.
