it can and it sucks. I used to drink an obsene amount of water... 7-10L per day. Often I would find myself disoriented, having deminished sensation, and would feel ill. I started drinking a lot of water while I was on a very strict diet that called for a minimum of 3.5L per day. I ended up getting carried away... my consumption increased slowly over time until the point I was drinking 10L per day... maybe a year or so after I had finished the diet. On the bright side, I lost over 100 pounds and kept it off.
