Andrew Garcia - From Dawn To Dusk (Trance) 01/07

Well guys. Recently I've been feeling a bit nostalgiac for trance, i've spent the majority of my time listening to all the new house and minimal and techno and all the proggy new stuff and have simpl neglected to be as eclectic as I used to be. So after listening to some "oldies" and feeling that vibe, the one that gave us all goosebumps in high school when we first started listening to trance, I decided to make an exclusively Trance mix. I put my heart and soul into this mix and spent like 2 days just programming it, sorting all my tracks etc etc. It's a collection of the old and the new but more importantly it carries that vibe that I used to associate with good music. ENJOY ALL

Tracklisting:

1. Nitrous Oxide- Frozen Dreams

2. Schiller ft. Jette Von Roth- Der Tag (Kyau vs. Albert Remix) [Garcia Intro Rework]

3. Richard Durand- Make Me Scream (Original) [Progression Edit]

4. Marco V- Any Better, Or?

5. Mark Richardson- Come to Me (Original Mix) [Short Edit]

6. Riley & Durrant- Neon Eyes (Original Mix)

7. Nick Lunn & YOMC Pres. Techno-Punk- Energize (Paul Van Dyk Edit) [Outro Edit]

8. POS, Mike Koglin- Untitled Audio (Nitrous Oxide Remix) [Garcia Short Edit]

9. The Thrillseekers- Synaesthesia (Ferry Corsten Remix)

10. Patrick Markus- Silence & Motion (Sassot Digital Tech Remix)

11. Ferry Corsten- Junk (Flashover Remix) [Garcia Rework]

12. Pro-Sonic- Ready 4 Life (Riley & Durrant Remix)

13. Mike shiver- Morning Drive [Intro Edit]

14. M.I.K.E, Signal Runners, Mike Foyle- Love Theme Dusk (Mike's Broken Record Mix) [Outro Rework]

Just finished up. I have no real complaints. I enjoyed the majority of the tracks, and the mixing was nice. The mix into the second track seemed a little awkward at first, but then I realized that that was just the structure of the track itself (kinda "harsher" and techier than the trance I prefer). Also, Morning Drive has one helluva kick! I just got this vinyl, and I have to watch how I EQ it, or it really overpowers the track I'm mixing it into. My only real/technical suggestion (and I say this probably because I'm trying to work on it myself right now) is to maybe work on your timing/phrasing a little more. But yeah, solid mix, sir!

thanks for listening and the comments. yea that second track is definately "harsher" which is why i used the KvA remix. the phrasing and tming throughout the entire mix is actually tight as a drum i honestly dont think it can get any better. everything was very intentional in this mix, especially the levels and phrasing to give an emphasized sense of progression. im glad you enjoyed though and looking forward to any additionaly comments people are willing to give!

really digging this set dude, stick with the trance mixes hehe, this one is really nice. I LOVE TRACK 3. Def goign to have to get it on vinyl. Mixing was really well done. How did you rework ferry corsten's Junk? Anyway mixing was very well done, blended well, and on key. The only real thing i noticed was the lower volume when fully blending in second track, but man that frozen dream track is a kicker so maybe thats why lol. If you have time check out my latest radio set, 2 hours tho so alittle long lol. Great job again dude, am goign to look forward to another trance mix.

Well, have had a listen to this set, and must say the arrangement is very eclectic.

Overall beatmatching is perfect, EQing is very solid, technically, nothing wrong with the mix.

However, when it comes to set flow, I just wasn't feeling it. From track 2 to 3 is a transition that I think clashes horribly. Going from such a peaceful sound to the hard kick in Durand's track is like a quick kick in the face and from there I never fully recovered. I understand you may have wanted to 'wake' the listener up, but let's just say that cup of coffee was just too strong.

From then on the flow is good. I love the Nick Lunn track, what a killer remix by PvD.

I see what you were trying to accomplish, attributing the progression of the set to that of a regular day. Guess our days are very different, as I would not have programmed it in the fashion you did.

thanks bud, the Junk rework was basically a complete reworking of the intro as it wasnt mixing in well originally and I tooke out a whole verse. i know what you mean about how the volume lowers a bit when going into Der tag. the problem was I played with the levels quite a bit to add emphasize the progression of the set but maybe it was a bit too drastic there? anyways thanks for listening and the comments. you got a link to your radio set? i cant stream as im in Asia currently and they are having internet problems (beleive it or not lol) so if you have a link to a pure mp3 thatd be great!

well i appreciate your honesty and that you listened to it and the comments and whatnot. essentially what happens is at the start of my days im a complete wreck (i quit drinking coffee last year)and so I wanted the set to sort of reflect that is it sort of "evens out" as you go deeper into the mixer but i suppose for some this may have hindered the flow. additionally I was trying to go for something a little different in terms of the way mixes go, its all too easy to mix up a regular old "tribute to trance" sort of mix that could go bland so I tried to spice it up and go for something different. also I appreciate that you noticed how eclectic this is, as that was part of the original plan as well.

thanks so much for the comments guys!

I might not enjoy the flow 100%, but I sure can appreciate the effort that went into planning this set. Listening to the set I kinda felt like a stranger walking into an art gallery and not understanding the art at all. Beauty nonetheless, but I couldn't relate.

do you have a mix i could have a listen to by any chance? what genres do you mix?

Posted by tubularbills on Jan-13-2007 16:48:

not too bad at all. I think i preferred the second half (from Untitled Audio (which is awesome, btw) onward). and hearing Funk always gets a smile on my face too. good work!
