That window is the step sequencer, it lists all sounds/instruments that are loaded in the project. From there you have probably seen that you can sequence notes in a very basic way on the sequencer or go to the piano roll, either by right clicking the desired instrument and selecting Piano Roll or by clicking the piano roll "PR" button at the top of the screen.

Take a look at the pattern selector "PAT" next to the tempo selector and the transport buttons. If you haven't done anything you are probably editing pattern #1.

Sequence your instrument in the piano roll. Next to the transport buttons you can choose to listen to the current pattern or to the song, in this case you're still on the pattern, so have it set to "PAT".

When you have created a pattern, open up the playlist, "PL" button or F5 on the keyboard. Draw your Pattern 1 which you have been working on on to the playlist, switch to SONG next to the transport buttons, and hit play.

Take a look at the mixer, F9, when you play the song or the pattern you will see the meter bouncing on the mixer track assigned to the intrument, if you haven't selected one it's probably on the master, have you placed any effects there?

If not

You might have drawn the patterns on the playlist so that they overlap, the second one starts before the first is finished, and the third one etc. To verify this, try drawing only one Pattern 1 on the playlist, play the song, and see if you still get the echoes.

Ok, first of all, look at the playlist, you placed a pattern on bar 2 leaving the first bar empty. When you hit play it passes the first empty bar and then on bar 2 we have your pattern. It starts playing but then, since there is no more in the playlist after bar 2 the playback goes back to the start and keeps playing two bars endlessly. That way your pattern is retriggered over and over again.

Then if we look at the pattern itself (if it loaded correctly in my FLS, i assume it did), you have dotted out some notes on the step sequencer. When an instrument with a sustained sound (that is not a single hit, a drum, percussion, etc) is triggered with a note from the step sequencer it will just keep playing forever since there is no info about the length of the note, it's like pressing a key and never releasing it.

The step sequencer in FLS is a relic from the old days of the software, it's cool but no one actually uses it. So avoid it, except for some percussion patterns perhaps. Do everything in the piano roll.

So in few words your problem is that the notes are triggered and never end, and on top of that they are triggered multiple times.

Are the midi notes actually triggering an instrument? What instrument have you placed the midi notes "on"?

Make sure the note velocities aren't set to 0, by default they shouldn't be, but you never know. Take a look at the bottom of the piano roll.

alright, the first thing that comes up when you hit new is your step sequencer, which contains kick, hat, clap, snare. that is actually pattern 1 in your play list, alls you have to do to assign something to your play list is highlight the pattern 1 open piano roll and your good to go!

here's a simple test...load up a 3xOSc or some other VST inst...then drag and drop the midi file onto the instrument, press the check mark...BAM FOOL SHOULD WORK NOW!

ok so did you try the 3xosc test?

to load vanguard...you have to first go to the options menu and locate your VST directory, once that is done you channels>add>more>refresh(fast scan) and if you installed it correctly then it should come up in red font.

make sense?

Channels - Add one - More... - Refresh - Check the Vanguard that should have appeared in the list in red. Now you will find it in the Add one-list.

Also check the Help in fruity, there is an answer to most questions there.
