Live Speech
I know that this is a forum that deals with Trance artists and the like, which I do as well but, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with taking a live speech in a building and working on it in post to get good quality speech. I will say that the room has natural reverb and you can alos hear the air conditioning. I took care of the air conditioning with waves x noise. The speaker, (male) wore a head-set like an E3 and the Console was a Yamaha PM5D. Any suggestions would be very helpful as I am experimenting.
What exactly are you trying to achieve? Are you editing the speach to cut it down? Are you wanting to remove the reverb?(not sure that would work)...
I know how to edit the speech, I just want to get it to sound good. The speech was recorded at a hot signal but not to the point where it is clipping. I know by recording a hot signal is good because you can throw a compressor on it to get rid of any floor noise. I have most of the waves plugins and I'm sure there are some tricks that you can do to the audio to make it sound smooth and professional like EQ's, compressors, Limiters and so forth. I have been experimenting with the different plugins and I got sounding better than before, I just wanted to know if anyone else has an opinion or experience on this type of thing.
What is it that doesn't sound good that you need to alter? Try a high pass filter around 100Hz - 150Hz (experiment) That will help cut out some of the air-con rumble as Male vocal is not really below that range (120Hz maybe). Speach usually tops out around 10KHz too so you could try cutting above that range too (8-12 is sibalence) however that will also cut some of the reverb that is naturally occuring. Again you'll need to experiment. Not sure how much Eq you'd want to use. depends on what your trying to achieve I guess.
Good Luck.
