The Official Australian Open Thread

So.. the chaos has started already in Melbourne.

Who's your favorite? Roddick maybe, after he beat Federer last week? Or Nadal? Or is it gonna be Federer after all?

And will Serena make a 'come back (= play one grand slam a year and be out of the tournament the rest of the year)', or will Mauresmo defend her title?

Thumbs up

Finally someone made this thread

I'm going for Djokovic, Jankovic and Ivanovic!

Posted by Unique2701 on Jan-15-2007 16:38:

they dont stand a chance and you know it

Posted by zoric on Jan-15-2007 16:47:

Maybe Jelena Jankovic, she's been really good lately.

Nole has a pretty good chance if he gets his play to work and Ana will do well, and perhaps with some luck, she'll be able to advance a bit in this tournament.

Posted by zoric on Jan-15-2007 18:30:

Posted by The_G0dfather on Jan-15-2007 18:59:

Posted by InterMilan31 on Jan-15-2007 19:01:

no stupid serbs are gonna win

Federer and i pray Hingis but I know the first is more likely!

Posted by zoric on Jan-15-2007 19:51:

I know, Marc Rosset!!!!!!

At least I'm hoping for them, even though I KNOW THEY WON'T WIN

Posted by zoric on Jan-15-2007 21:38:

A new form of hooligans are born, Tennis-hooligans!!!

Serb teenagers and croats

Posted by Unique2701 on Jan-15-2007 21:39:

I would looove for Marat Safin to win, but I guess thats not gonna happen anytime soon

As for the women.. I really have no clue, havent watched a lot of WTA tour lately, as long as its not Williams you wont hear me complain.

Posted by The_G0dfather on Jan-15-2007 22:34:

Well just so you know: Henin aint coming coz of mariage probs

Posted by King Ecnal on Jan-15-2007 22:35:

I know its not clay, but I'm going with Nadal...

Just because with tennis, its become... pick Federer or pick the field... in this case I'm going with teh field(Nadal)...

can we now forget that stupid Hingis engagement thread...lol...

Posted by InterMilan31 on Jan-16-2007 04:15:

I think Federer will win again and I also think that a upset will take place where we will see another unkown like Bagdahtis was or we will see Roddick in the finale as he has been playing great tennis of late for the past 6 months.

On the womens side I would love to see Hingis win but she can only do so if Ameile or Kim are out...

Posted by zoric on Jan-16-2007 10:41:

Hewitts on right now and Bec is in the crowd w000000t

Posted by King Ecnal on Jan-16-2007 14:37:

Nadal ALMOST losing to an American... wow...

that would have been a slap in the face to lose first round...

Posted by zoric on Jan-16-2007 14:55:

I'm rooting for Hewitt aswell here, even though I know he probably won't win anything.

I wouldn't exactly call 7-6,6-3,6-2 "almost losing"
Interesting that it was the same opponent who took him to 5 sets at Wimbledon

Would there be something so bad about Nadal losing to an American per se?
On clay, him losing to anyone would be something, but it's different on hard courts.

He loses that first set, like he ALMOST did... went deep into tie break... he loses that first match, we got a different outcome...! Of course he didn't... but it was a scare for Nadal...

I'm all for Americans, but Nadal in reality is the #2 behind Federer... so... ummm... the #2 guy losing would be big, and losing to a potentially "no-name" American... that would be huge...

and I'm a Nadal supporter here... ahem...

Nadal beat Federer on hardcourt, if I remember it correctly. And anyone besides Roddick he should be able to beat I think actually.

going with this man...

on the women side, anything can happen so i'll go with the number one rank.

Posted by verndogs on Jan-17-2007 02:38:

sharapova should be on cruise control for a while after outlasting pin. I also didn't realize how tall sharapova is until i saw her shake hands with pin.

Posted by SolemnThirsty on Jan-17-2007 02:39:

^isn't she like 6'1"? and with heel probably like 6'4-5"
