Thumbs down Enough is enough!!

So I open the Washington Post website today, and on the same screen I see not one, not two, but 3 (!) stories dealing with Christian fundamentalists and Puritan "morality".

Whoever says that Christian religious nuts are a marginal part of American society obviously hasn't seen how often these stories make headlines in this country. There must be a reason for that. What is it, if not the fact that Americans are conservative? Money?

Is this what Americans are discussing and debating? Is this the American culture?

Barf @ Christian fundamentalists.

Wasn't the United States first colonised by religious settlers? Hasn't Christianity become even more popular this decade?

Why exactly are you surprised?

"Surprised"? LOL, "outraged" or "incensed" would be more like it.

There's a guy here (RJT) who always attacks me for saying that America is a Puritan country. He says America is completely normal, people are just like everywhere else, and I shouldn't be using the example of a minority group to draw conclusions about the whole nation.

But my point is, it's not really a "minority group", it's the mainstream culture that endlessly debates these topics, and this screenshot is just one irrefutable example!

Where is RJT (Lucid's BF in the COR) when you need him

America definetly has a higher rate of people speaking out in a "Puritan" fashion but it's not enough that I would label the entire country as a "Puritan Country." America has grown to be a country of diverse religion and opinion and therefore you cannot label it as far as religion goes.

That being said there have been and always will be christian/puritan whatever fanatics. They're going to bitch about things no one else really cares about. Their minds are basically stuck in old idealism that hasn't evolved with the times. I'd really like to think the majority of Americans are as close-minded as these people and that we're not living in a "Puritan Country."
