[VIDEO] --- Saturday Night Was Amazing!!!
Woohoo... As many of you know, I'm resident DJ at Queen Mary on Saturdays. The music we play there is a lot of Spanish Rock & Trance and a little bit of hip hop. The club usually pulls about 1000 people, and we have commercials on Super Estrella 107.1. It's not your typical EDM club, but our crowd (90% Hispanic) likes Trance. Off course we have to play some commercial stuff too.
Anyhow, this past Sat. we sold out. As I was doing my set (prime time), a guest violinist showed up. And Bam!
She began playing the violin over my set!
I felt like Tiesto In Concert! hahaha That was awesome. The crowd loved it.

That's pretty cool. If she was in key it would have been even better
Joking aside, that place is PACKED!! Woody In Concert 2007, imo

Man and I thought it was yuck when I played 1 Beyonce remix at Mi Piace...
2.- Justin Timberlake - Sexy Back (Remix)
2.- Sasha - Xpander
D00d wtf
Ok, the other DJ really wanted to show me his remix of Sexy Back, so I gave him a chance to play it. It was good, but I really wanted to hear Xpander on a LOUD system. So I cut his song right away. Hahaha And because Xpander is kinda mellow and not exactly too mainstream, I had to switch it up to even more mainstream quickly! haha
I would never play this much mainstream at Spundae or to a 100% EDM crowd. I do play some mainstream songs from time to time, but not this many! hahaha

ATRC!!!
i still love this baby!
Looks fun will have to check it out soon
that first video sounds like a fucking lamb is getting slaughtered...
mainstream or not judging from those T/L's, a woman with menopause has more flow than that

Originally posted by DjWoody You are entitled to your opinion, but if you were there, you would've known why this tracklisting makes sense. This tracklisting is geared more toward people that don't go out to your average Avalon, or Spundae. This crowd likes to sing out loud. That's why there's dance remixes of Spanish Rock & Top 40 in there.

Its a question of audience. Yeah the tracklist is gonna look shit to us, we're EDM fans, we know better. But you have to play for the party and in this case, it looks like you delivered what they wanted, no matter how icky that result may be
I've had to play such sets before, although sans Tiesto and Spanish Rock...and its fun, its a challenge keeping energy levels good with stuff you dont normally play.
Awesome Woody!
8.- Enanitos Verdes - Lamento Boliviano (DJ Woody Remix)
this one must be hott
A violinest playing over Traffic like that is worse than those conga drummers that come in and ruin sets.
I would have been throwing eggs at her if I could, me thinks, lol.
I just find it annoying more than anything....but that's what _I_ think.
I think a DJ should be able to read his crowd and play to the crowd. That videos crowd you cant really waste time educating people with minimal techno or tech house or the latest Tigerskin track. I think the tracklist fits the environment it was played in. I saw a couple doin some merengue/salsa dancing to trance music.
Looked like a fun party...I rather go to a party full of nubs than a party full of jaded and fickle edm "pros". Thats why I like Vanguard rite now. Its a good mix of hardcore crowd and people who seem to be new to partyin out at a EDM club, which always brings a good vibe.

personally I would have told the violinist to fuck off until she could keep in actual time with the beat of the music. her sense of rhythm is fucking terrible.
and then I probably still would have told her to stfu, because it doesn't sound good. I'm sort of an elitist snob when it comes to orchestral stuff, and this just screams "wannabe" to me.
But i'm glad you had a good time. And it sounds like the crowd enjoyed it.

Originally posted by DjWoody You took the words out of my mouth! Thats exactly how I feel. That's why I have more fun djing at these parties than parting at most EDM Events. People in the EDM scene are too hardcore and they don't enjoy it as much because they're worring too much. I'm not about to do a set like I do at Spundae at this event, people would leave the dancefloor in a heart beat. My favorite crowd is still Tiesto in Tijuana and Rosarito. That crowd is awesome!
Can't there be a middle ground? Does every party have to be a bunch of uneducated masses of people who all just want to hear "that one song I heard a million times and know it by heart OMG" I would get bored playing to these people every night...they just want to hear the same shit over and over...
You havn't been to very many great clubs around the world aye? Yeah theres people on drugs, but thats not to say other parties dont have their share of abusers...drunks/cokeheads etc. I'm pretty sure there are still great EDM clubs around where people are friendly and care about the music.

Hey some people like playing in front of a big crowd and making sure the crowd is pleased, some people get together with their friends and play stuff they like and pretend they are a famous duo...hehe
Isn't this the same crowd you were questioning the major EDM promoters about why don't they promote to these crowds? Well, from the way you make it sound like....they would end up hating the music at Spundae/Giant/etc.
And as much as you are there to please the crowd, it's also a time where you can educate the crowd as well. I'm not saying that means you can't play the big anthems like the crowd likes, but it does mean you can play a track here or there that you love and you think they could get into...then if the crowd does like that track, chances are someone is going to come up to you asking what it was...and whala, that person is educated. And from there he or she can tell his or her friends about the track...and whala, more people are educated. And as they attend more and more events where they are educated more bit by bit, it could get to the point of that person going, "I wonder where I can go to hear lots more of this type of stuff..."
Honestly, it's how a lot of people do get deep into EDM. But in the end, it's up to you. Playing the safe card....and no one can fault you at that if you want to insure future bookings with the promoter you played for.
