Listening - really nice percs & FX to start off with - like that breathy little build up....good bassline & full sounding pads coming in..liking this, reminds me of early 2000 prog a bit

Was expecting more to happen in the breakdown and rest of the song in terms of melody - maybe another one coming over the existing pads & synths for some variation at the end...but overall i enjoyed this - your percs & FX really stand out for me

Thanks for the comments.

Usually i would add something later, even creating a chord progression, but i felt i wanted to do something different this time.

Posted by TOR on Jan-16-2007 12:12:

Ah, I love those phased pads..
I think this is experimental in the sense that you combined ethnic sounding percussion with raw electronic sounds. That combination does not work for me unfortunately. I like some of the individual elements, like that phased pad, but as a whole they do not seem to blend well.
The track is a bit too static and symmetrical as well, I expected something new in the second half.

Anyway, I know you're a good producer, this one just didn't cut it for me

Hey Subtle,

First of all, thanks for your reply on our track. I just listened to yours and I am impressed. The drums in this track are lovely, the sounds are choosen very nicely.

I am just missing a change of bass and melody after the break to give the track more drive and less predictability. Progressive can be really good even when you keep it minimal but then it should only be a 6 or 7 minute track and not almost ten

Cheers!

Thanks Nomen and Tor, your feedback is very much appreciated. I expected much worse critics on this one.

Posted by The Drow on Jan-17-2007 08:06:

Hmm the choir fxes are nice.
The precs are good.
My first impression is that it sounds a lot like Derek Howells on the precs are much more static.
I'm not listening on monitors so I'll check it out again later on.
The pads sounds nice but they are too supersawish.
I expected a snare drop like this:
|----|x---|----|x---|----|x---|-x--|x---|
It fit's the track a lot. It will also give some more boldness to the next bars.
The sparkling fx is nice.
You are still streaching your tracks too much.
This is a 7 minutes track. Please remake it beacuase I'd like to play it with my new cdjs
You need to add a lead that will be interduced in the second break and make the track around 7-8 minutes.

8/10 of now.
Omer

thanks Omer, was expecting worse feedback from you on this one, and i might take ur consideration into account

cool tune!!!

like this a lot, dont know y any1 wouldnt!!

good job.

Posted by mavve on Jan-18-2007 00:08:

hey mate.

I Must say the track first got my attention when the baseline kicked in, very good indeed. But track seem a bit monotone but then you have done some experimenting on the track so that is forgiven hahahaha J/K, production is great and I cant find any mixing errors.

Kick is warm and deep and so is the bass, but that phasing sound just gets anoying after a while. If I was you I would play around with some vocals, Some here some there cut in a million ways =) but thats just me.

Keep it up mate.

Yours mavve

Posted by Subtle on Jan-18-2007 00:20:

thanks Simon_L glad you like it

Hey Mavve thanks for the tip, yes i was thinking the exact same thing.
Playing around with some vocals would be awesome.
But i couldnt find any vocal samples or anything to use
so i dropped the idea.

This is a bit slow for me, but nontheless a pretty good production.

Posted by Sunclyder on Jan-18-2007 23:05:

Nice percusion M8

But i need moreeeeeee , the idea is very good, sounds are very nice but this is to monotonny for me

Greetings
Karol

Thanks much for listening.

Yeah, its monotone, it doesnt even change after the break
but i just felt i had to make this. Pherhaps i can develop this type of sound to be more interesting

Posted by Boomer187 on Jan-19-2007 16:58:

I definitely like this tune great work on it.

I played it on my radio show last night. too bad my mixing was poop :P i'll be playing it more tho.

keep it up.

Hey Subtle - sorry I didn't get a chance to reply to the IM!

I think the other reviewers here essentially hit the mark. The elements are all individually good and it's put together well in the larger scheme. It's also a tad generic sounding and far too long (someone said 7 minutes - I think maybe even a little shorter than that would be ideal).

Two other minor gripes:
- From a mix/mastering perspective it's a little bass-heavy. If that's compression then I'd ease up on it a bit, otherwise EQ a little bit away.
- That high-pitched drum on the dotted offbeat that's panned very far left bugs me; it sounds just a few milliseconds out of time and the panning makes it more noticeable.

Maybe not my best review for you but there it is.

Cheers,
Aaron

Thanks for the comments.

Digi: yeah i think ur right about the bass. i heard it in headphones, and it needs some EQuing and stuff.

Guess ur right about the dotted left panned. but it doesnt do much to the track, i might as well replace it.

Hey there

The intro is cool, the pad is ok, the bassline is cool aswell, i also like that acid element that that comes every 16th beat, not sure if it is the sawpad, but i dont think so. The pad melody is cool, i liked it. Vocal effects are well done imo

Its a nice track but doesnt make my style though. its a bit too monotonous at some parts, i miss some more melody, production wise its realy nice

all the best,

Alex

Hey.
This is cool, although a tad monotone as have been said before. I'm usually not too fussy about that. It works for me.
The reversed vocal thing is neat.
I like the percs, sounds snappy and clean.
It's cool how you can get such a dry but still good sounding mix, I usually have to drench everything in reverb, LOL.

Posting feedback as I listen:

nice intro, and in comes a good solid beat - no complaints so far. I like the detail you've put into the background effects, it makes a huge difference and makes the contrast between a good track and great track.

That vocal sample is great, so are the bongos that just came in! really liking how this is going so far. Bassline is nice and deep, could maybe use a dB or 2 of boost around 150 to 300Hz, but works fine as it is.

Just came to a small break, the background effects are what make this track so atmospheric, I love the feel. And in comes the beat again...lovely.

Those pads work so well in this track - I don't think they'd work in any other track, they sound quite dark. Ohh, just heard a little background synth, almost 303 sounding, like it. I've yet to find anything really wrong with this track AT ALL, and i'm a tough bugger to please. This is certianly floating my boat, sounds like something humate would make - you'll know what i'm talking abuot if you've heard the humate remix of Miss Shiva - Dreams.

And here's the main break - beat fading out, atmospheric stuff coming in. Like it so far, that vocal sample really rocks my socks. Nice little breakbeat, enjoying the break a lot and in comes the beat again! If you'd skipped through the track you wouldn't have noticed a break at all, this is one of those tracks you have to listen to all the way through to get the full feel of it. Sounds great to me, really like it.

Mind if I use it in sets?

Posted by Subtle on Jan-21-2007 10:52:

Thanks for the comments:

Yes, Macker, feel free to use it in any way you want

and thanks for your thorough feedback, much appreciated.

The track being as long and monotone as it is.. i didnt expect anyone to like it at all actually.

And i will check out that Humate track ASAP.

Good Luck
