Track Preview: NIN - Hurt (Dave Molina Heavy Remix)

Did this over the weekend for a couple shows in Laredo and Austin. I still need to add some audio and do a proper mixdown, but I wanted to get some TXTA forum feedback. I'll post the full track for download when its finished.

Sample at www.myspace.com/davemolina

Suck it, Dirk.

hahah, i don't know why you're jumping me... i gave it a listen a while back and thought it was great. its an awesome track to begin with, and i like the new spin you put on it.

you can still die for all i care though.

LOL

Its customary to throw in some type of cheap shot whenever I make a post. You know this.

Thanks for checking it out though. It seemed dark in the beginning and when I changed to the "What have I become...." lyrics (not posted), it got kinda postive.

We can't have that. This is angry music.

Dave sounds cuttin. now just waiting for a Head like a hole remix with that same bass beat or closer remix. Girls would love that one, sounds great! cheers

doesn't work for me M8
Trent's voice just doesn't lend itself to what you are trying to do.
whatever emotion the song carries, is lost in the remix.

of course most rock songs should just be left alone, they are hardly ever done well i think.

but a good example of what works is.
APC - 3 libras (all main courses mix)

He takes the original, which is a gem on its own right, and tweaks it masterfully; playing on the brooding beats, teasing the lyrics, building a proper crescendo, until all we have is silence.

I actually toyed with the idea of using no verses at all because I had the same concerns. The hardest part of remixing a track like that is speeding up the vocal to match the beat while keeping the intended emotion. Its a tightrope act and to be honest, its damn near impossible.

I think I'm looking more to get a simple rise out of the crowd for that single moment with something they least expect rather than create a masterpiece that lives forever.

Thanks for the listen and honest feedback though...much appreciated.
