Travel to Bali

Is anyone in Bali or Indonesia at the moment or recently been? Im meant to be going there with my Japanese rugby team but my parents, being the paranoid buggers that they are, keep sending me terrorism warnings for Bali. Whats the atmosphere like there? Is it relatively safe? Is it the governments geeing up or is it a real threat?

Cheers for any help... or lack of... that the COR can give me!

My gf's bro goes over a whole bunch for surfing... He says that it's fine, just STAY THE FUCK OUT OF KUTA. That's where all the shit goes down, because that's where all the Westerners are.

Hey man, I was just in Bali now over xmas and new years. I tend to go there twice a year cuz its just so damn awesome. Paradise on earth! The place is extremely relaxed. You will immediately realize that the local people are very very friendly, and not anti-australian at all. In fact, my australian friend who visited bali first time this xmas commented how he feels safer in Bali than at home. Goes to show somethng. I wouldnt be worrried at all if I was you. The media just seems to have an unfair view of it all. Yes there were bombs a few years back, but the secuiryt has tightened up, and local people despise those who carried it out.

Now if you go, there are some things you have to experience
The Kuta sunset
Climbing mount Batur or Agung
Chilling in the cliffs of Uluwatu
Snorkeling in the coral reefs of Lovina
The gorgeous beach of Dreamland

as for clubs/bars, the popular ones are
MBarGo
Bounty
KuDeTA <-- the most awesome place ull ever visit in your life.
Double6 (for proper clubbing)

And do stay in Kuta and not any other place...thats were all the younger generation are, but if you feel that its too popular and was to play it on the safe side, try seminyak or sanur. Nusa dua is damn nice, but expensive and far away from everything.

Ubud is in the middle of forrest and rice fields and far away from all beach fronts. Its nice to go there over the day, but not fun to stay for a holiday. Theres just nothing there and is pretty much dead past 10. I'd recommend Seminyak. Kuta is awesome too and thats where I always stay, but perhaps too touristy

I really don't understand why austrlians think they are not welcome there. I have lots and lots of aussie friends and no one has complained of the locals being anti-australian...like i said the locals are some of the friendliest ppl you'll meet

Considering I'm currently staying in Thailand and know more about South east asia happenings than anyone on these boards..i think u should listen to MY advice.

Indonesia, in general is not a good place to go now. A lot of shit have been happening in the country lately with all the commotion about on going floods and other national tragic events like that airplane thats been missing for 2 weeks....the countrys pretty much fucked.

Bali on the other hand has been great for the past yaer. Been there meself last june and everything was just fine. Australians were crawling all over the place so u aussies who think another jihad is aiming at u as soon as u step into kuta..ur just being paranoid. Not a big fan of bali as far as holiday destinations are concerned but its a nice place to visit.

The countries been doing a lot to cut down the extremism and bali is probably THE most liberal place in indonesia since most of em arent even muslims.
