Interview with Christopher Lawrence (EXCELLENT Interview)

http://www.allen-heath.com/uk/news_story.asp?view=353

A good highlight (and this isn't the only question re: fighting lol)

quote:

A&H: Now for the dreaded question your DJ nightmare?

CL: I was playing in El Salvador and a guy suddenly came into the DJ booth and punched me in the head. His friend had fallen off a bar in the club and this dude was convinced that his friend was dead, and that it was my fault because of my music.

and another one

quote:
A&H: Would you like to take full advantage of a rare opportunity to gratuitously promote your new mix CD?

CL: OK Dear fans: I have a wife, two children, two mortgages, two studios, two cars and a very expensive DJ booking agency habit to support so please, please buy my wicked new mix CD called Subculture out now on Pharmacy Music. Hows that?

quote:

A&H: We heard that you had a fistfight on stage in full view of a huge audience with another famous DJ

CL: How could I forget? That was at the Acafest in Mexico with Roger Sanchez. He wasnt even on the flyer for the event, but the organizers agreed to allow him to play. He turned up late and missed his set time, then insisted that he was going on the decks while I was still playing. I tried to be reasonable with him, but he completely lost the plot in front of 10,000 people and put me in a headlock. We havent exchanged Christmas cards since then. Go figure.

Wow that's news to me, those ACA Fests were a long time ago too!

What's with specifying a mixer? I understand Xone gets high praise and such but I saw pics of him plying on pio 800 for NYE in LA, when it looked like a xone 3d was sitting near him, I believe for PVD? Like someone won't get paid for a huge gig if only a pioneer mixer is in the building?

A lot of bigger DJs put things in their contract requiring a certain mixer be provided. I dunno if CL does this in his contracts, but a ton of the bigger DJs do these days.

PvD is def one of them.

Yes, that was probably Pauls Xone3D you saw. Because of Pauls setup, Xone mixers and what they can do... provides him with full functionality.

When I opened for B&J, they preferred for the Pioneer DJM600. I dont care too much for that mixer, but when I saw what they were doing with it with the mixer tools and setup it made sense.

I have a XONE92 and prefer it personally, but still love Rotary Rane mixers.

I still remmeber him telling me when he got kidnapped at the airport. Pretty funny.
