Track Levels

Hi, Im a relatively new DJ.
just got beatmatching down roughly and can do some pretty long mixes without pitch riding...

but my question is... how do u know when to adjust the track level on the cued track so it doesnt make the bassline switch that obvious?

Do I mess with the gains? Or Channel faders? Do you usually have the channel faders at the top anyways?
Sorry if this is a novice question..

Learn to mix first with ONLY the channel faders, don't use the EQ's at all.

Once you figure out how to mix by carefully using volume control, then it'll become apparant.

what's wrong with EQing? I don't find it that hard of a technique to learn...

the other guy is right take it one step at a time. eqing isnt a hard technique just like a lot of the basic skills but part of the learning process is mastering each of the basic techniques...you think you know it but you really dont, and in fact dj'ing is a continual learning process even if your already at that "point"...youll know it when you hit it and i will never forget this Tony M called it a "plateau" once you like hit this plateau. it's like your "point of return" when you go rusty, or your base point when learning advanced mixing techniques, i think its like a certain point where youve mastered all the basics and its just a very naturally occurring process. this is also the point where a lot of people move on to other technologies out of boredom sometime imho.
