I don't think I've heard a single EM in a year or so. Mary Anne Hobbs is all I need.

Posted by r5a on Jan-25-2007 14:22:

Mary Ann Hobbss is very nice.

Although I haven't listened to any EM's this year I've been listening to it forever now and I always enjoy the sets and still do. Your forgetting that the EM is for all kinds of EDM, not just straight Trance - if you want something like that go to ASOT or one of the many Trance radio shows.

is that a problem? and no, it's not full of house music.
i think that one month ago they had beyer, sharam, and avb in the row so they still cover pretty much all genres of edm

The essential mix has always been regarded as a house show by many of it's fans, esp those from the start. It does show a fair bit of variation but it does't go far enough simply because if we get 'trance' it's always 1 of 5 djs, techno, usually one of the 'bigger' names & so on. It just needs to expose more obscure stuff from each genre & it'd be fine again. Every style deserves it's chance there but it does become a bit boring when many people get invited back again & again & they're crap. Most people think trance is just pvd, armin, above & beyond, jules & tiesto & judge a whole genre on that. Fortunately once in a while a good trance dj is on, eg christopher lawrence or even marcel woods brought something different.

I personally like the Essential Mix. You should be grateful of having a show which exposes you to different types of music. Yes there is predominatly more house then other genres but it still shows a wide spectrum of music.

MAH does that, times ten.

I used to listen to it a few years back but stopped as my taste is changing.

My favourites are the ones from Pete Tong and Oakie as far back as 96. I still have the original cassettes.

Posted by djsphere on Jan-25-2007 15:34:

i'm really into old essential mix shows like:

Rui Da Silva 2002.09.15
Gabriel and Dresden 09.03.2003
Sasha & John Digweed @ Miami april 2002
Armin van Buuren - 9.02.2003

tight mix. the acapella of that missy elliot tune they used

Posted by medinaM5 on Jan-26-2007 01:33:

desyn masiello 2005
trentemoller 2006

my top 2, besides oakey's world tour in 99 of course

Posted by Sushipunk on Jan-26-2007 01:38:

There have been lots of good acts play that don't include house. Some of my favourites are the Plump DJs and Lee Coombs (although Lee Coombs does quite a bit of Deep House as well as Breaks).

I'm sure there are many others.

No there hasn't I don't think but that's like 3-4 EMs ago. Hardly any time to go without a trance set considering the sheer amount of genres in EDM.

If it is, then his verse structure/timing is way off.

But I would, sadly, guess no. Just an awesome paragraph.
