great idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What do you people think for the purpose of giving the producers of a track some credit and educate the crowd , clubs should install a digital display above the dj booth showing the title of the song and producers name . The club can make money at the same time by showing drink specials and upcomming events , think that would be awesome .
It's a good idea, yes, but only for the educated crowd really.
Firstly, who's gonna put the track title names up? Surely the dj's don't have time to write them. You hear dj's dropping close to 20 tracks in an hour. And nowadays everyone has their own edits as well. Even if you had someone that really knew their music, there's loads of unreleased material as well. It just wouldn't work.
Secondly, it would get abused as far as puting up drink specials, advertising other parties, and you'll soon see personal messages of "Hey Ange, I'm in the toilet going #2... where r u??"
But it's a good idea though
I think Danny T(enaglia) used to do this
Tenaglia did have this at Vinyl and Arc. He also announced every track he was playing on the mic that one time I saw him in Miami when he was going through the pre-95 Groovejet portion of his set.
It's a neat idea, and it can be worked around with some artists (ie pvd having his own display show so you'd scratch the tracktitling). most of the problems with this were covered already in this thread.
if djs are using their laptops (more and more are doing so), it would be very easy to write a plugin to display the track played on a led device or some kind of screen.
great idea.
Actually, I was just thinking about it today!
The thing would finally give the screens some meaning and purpose, but you would need a knowledgeable A/V guy (that knows the tracks) to do it. DJ's are way too busy for that. Maybe it's already possible with the new Pioneer DVJ's to broadcast CD/DVD track names to video?
I remember this kind of topic being brought up in the TA music discussion a few years ago...
I am sure most DJs will be ok with a CDJ or DVDJ that automatically shows their track playing but then you'll have some guys that end up revealing their hand. Imagine a track is being played with the MP3 release group name being advertised? It'd be pretty funny.
i think its at the plaza that i saw this big screen once where it scrolled messages that people could send from their phones
one word ..
KENO!

I like the idea though .. angelo should run for mayor.
