Dunno Cineplex launches reward program and renames theatres

quote:
Cineplex Entertainment has partnered with Scotiabank to launch a rewards program for moviegoers and to rename theatres across Canada.

The SCENE program was unveiled Wednesday in Toronto and will be expanded to other Canadian cities in the spring. Film fans can sign up for a card that enables them to collect 100 points every time they buy a movie ticket at Cineplex theatres. Bonus points are also available, including 250 simply for registering.

Moviegoers can then redeem 1000 points for a free movie admission. The cards are also good for 10% off concession purchases as well as special offers and contests throughout the year. The minimum age to register is 14.

In addition to the SCENE card, a special SCENE ScotiaCard is available. It earns one point for every $5 spent with the debit card and five points for every $1 spent at Cineplex. There is a 2000-point bonus enough for two free movies for signing up.

Scotiabank has also purchased the naming rights for several major theatre complexes in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. The first to be re-branded is the Paramount Toronto on Richmond Street, which is now the Scotiabank Theatre Toronto.

yeah that is lame, but the rewards program is good imo, 10 movies and get one free. Not bad, better than nothing.

Finally I can be part of THE SCENE! OH thank you Cineplex!

This isn't anything new....I think we are going to see more and more of buildings being renamed....the advertising is great for the companies willing to spend that kind of money. All they are doing is giving up the naming rights to the building...just like Air Canada Centre and Rogers Skydome and numerous other spots buildings.

Well, everything has a price...

Oh, great. I'm put on a mailing list automatically but I can get myself off of it after I'm forced to receive at least one - lol.

Smart -- I can opt-out of the enewsletter but it sounds like you'll still get spammed with other junk.

For Members who are 14 or 15 years old, SceneLP will only collect personal information required to set up and administer the SCENE Program. SceneLP does not certain collect additional information used to create a Member profile such as marital status, number of people in household, household income, education and home language from individuals it actually knows to be 14 or 15 years old. If you are 14 or 15 years of age at the time you enroll in the SCENE Program, you agree that SceneLP may contact you when you turn 16 in order to collect additional personal information we did not collect when you initially joined the Program to allow you to benefit from the full privileges and opportunities of SCENE membership

Don't worry kids - you're safe if you're 14/15 - but we'll come a knockin' once you turn 16.

Well, at least they admit to this.

Ok... everything above is on the LAST page of the process to get a 'Scene' card. Near the top it says something that the 'Privacy Policy' on scene.ca also applies. I found this gem:

quote:
We may collect additional information from you to create a member profile including marital status, number of people in household, household income, gender, education, home language, movie-going preferences and information that identifies you as an existing Scotiabank customer, if applicable. Providing this information is optional.

OOPS! Well, not exactly -- gender and movie-going preferences are mandatory.
