Windmill Sessions 01 (deep melodic prog stuff)
WINDMILL SESSIONS 01
Hey, this is the 1st mix I've posted on here. It reflects the kind of music that I'm in to currently, namely deep, flowing tunes with a tangiable sense of melancholy.
The mix was designed to flow together well, with mini peaks and troughs. Hope you like it and let us know what you thought!
cheers
I like it when other people talk about the tracks in their mix, so I thought I should...
01. Room 101-New Speak
A perfect intro, an ambient start which kicks into a beat, to the backgroundof beautiful synth work.
02. Matthew Adams- Gold Leaf
Fast becoming one of my fave producers, his productions increase in quality with each release. This is from his Toes in the Sand EP and is such a sparkly tune with real depth of sound.
03. Kaito-The Universe
Another fave producer of mine, his productions are all of a similar ilk but are so beautifully deep and chilled out.
04. Chris Girard- Rideau Street (storyteller remix)
I love this track! This is my definition of the perfect "filler" track, so smooth and full of melody.
05.4Mal- Layered Feelings
4Mal can do no wrong, this track takes the mix up a gear with a faster bassline and drops but stillremains blissfully calm. The whispered vocals do it for me.
06.Daniel Gregory-Paradise
Keeping the pace up this track delivers a deep melodic build before dropping into a feet moving funk-tinged melody. Great stuff.
07.Kaito- Nobody Could Be Alone
The mix then drops down a gear into real "journey" terriotory. This is one of my fave tracks by Kaito and a spine-tingler guaranteed!
08.Pablo Roma-Sad Flowers
Back into a melodic builder. This track is subtle, but undeniably beautiful and sets the scene well for the next track.
09.Narek and Danny Bullo- I Need Somebody
The pace returns with this exquisite track. Trancey bassline, shimmering melodies and haunting vocals-stunning stuff.
10.Pole Folder-Morning Crow
A real change of direction, Pole Folder's album was a very successful electronic album and this track builds up for the crescendo of the mix.
11.Benz and MD-Turning the Curve
This is a huge track. Big room melodies, builds and drops all with top-notch production values. You have to hear this played live!
12.Breakfast-Drunk in the Grass at Sunset
A real gem of a track. A beautiful techy piece of work that always makes me smile, if only for the beauty of it. The beats are getting harder by this point...
13.Espen and Elusive-Internet Hugs
The climax of the mix is actually quite chilled but incredibly stirring. This is my favourite song of 2006 so I won't be able to describe what feelings it evokes to me. Suffice to say its a fitting final track.

This is a quality mix.
A great selection of subtle, building melodic tracks devoid of anything remotely cheese, they are intelligently produced which is sadly lacking in trance these days.
This reminds me of why I got into electronic music in the first place, well done mate!
Ah cheers for the comments squire!
There is a lot of quality tracks out there still yeah, you just have to search harder nowadays.
ps.looking forward to the melodic-funky mix from u soon
This sounds wonderful. Getting it now.

Mint f'ing set, mate! No complaints here. Nice mixing, nice track selection, nice flow. I found some tunes and artists to research thanks to this set! Some of these sounds are exactly what I have been looking for.

Yep I tried to put a gradual progression in the tempo/feel of the mix, I love mixes that build and promise more so this was the idea behind that.| quote: |

Ta Zoric. I spent a while trying to get the right feel in terms of track selection and how they fit into the mix.
Out of curiosity, what DJs spin sets like this? I'd be interested to know if there are any DJs out there I should investigate. I'm new to this sound, so any pointers would be much appreciated.
Hmmm, there seems to be a dearth of top level djs who regularly play this sort of music for their whole set. But I would point you in the direction of Terje Bakke, his sets were one of my inspirations. They can be quite electro at times but his earlier set stuff is beautiful
Also checking on MoShic and Nick Warren maybe?
Closer to home I would reccommend (with their respective blessing hopefully!) Steven Hays and Dj MP from these very forums. Consistently brilliant. Sorry to them for never posting comments but their mixes remain on my mp3 and are superbly constructed pieces of music with many gems!
Hope that helps
Just downloaded and now listening. I'm about though w/ the third song. Sounds smooth and flow nicely. Mixing is ok...pretty much how I'd mix. Two thumbs up for you!
