Paul Van Dyk Review-29.03.02@SoundFactory
Well here it is:
So I drive up to Soundfactory last night at around 11:30 p.m. and see how this massive line of PVD fans WRAPPED around 46th through 45th street, and thought to myself,"This is going to be a LONNNG Night!"I could not believe my eyes. In all my times I have been to this place, I don't recall EVER seeing a line this insane!
So what do I do? Cut the line!
Took me about 15 minutes to get in!? HEHEE!
So I get in and Louis Diaz was still on. Sounded to me like your typical Soundfactory garbage.
Inside was not all that packed yet. So my boyfriend and I anxiously awaited for PVD himself to take over those tables. Finally at about 2:15ish the crowd KNEW it was that time. Right away the crowd applauded as he stepped up to the turntables. He instantly had the crowd in a frenzy. After the 1st couple of tracks, PVD could be seen dancing in the DJ booth. This is the first time I had ever seen PVD so alive&jolly while spinning, it was definitely different. He was dancing while he was changing records, and at one point he had changed shirts, with what was probably a gift from a fan, as the short sleeve t-shirt read "NY Loves PVD, with the classic I Love NY heart. That was definitely cool.
PVD's set seemed to change moods a couple of times through the morning. At the beginning, he played alot of vocals, and I wasn't really feeling most of them. Then he changed it up, playing some anthems of the moment such as Ferry Corsten's Punk & Rank1 Awakening. The crowd was going nuts during that track. I also remember a nice trio of tracks, first with Ralphie B's Massive, followed by 4 String Into the Night, then capped off by the 4 Strings remix to Blank & Jones' Desire. At that point, PVD was at his best so far, atleast from the reaction to the crowd. At around 5am, PVD began a medley of his own tracks and remixes, which was definetly the highlight of my night. I remember him playing his remix to St. Etienne's "That's How We Used to Live, which was a shock. Also I remember hearing Romanthony's Never Fuck & Jam & Spoon's Be Angeled somewhere in between...along with Punk Funk.
All in all, I would say it was an average set by PVD. Not the best I've ever heard from him, and certainly not the worst. I guess I was expecting more, as it was his first time back to NYC since Twilo.
As for Soundfactory, this is probably their biggest event there. What's funny is that the crowd seemed the same i remember it from 3 years ago. Who agrees? hah!
But, PVD was definitely diggin the NYC crowd, nonetheless...and definitely seemed ecstatic at his return. We await his NEXT return!

Ok, the Sound Factory has to be the worst venue I have ever been to. It definatly made my top 3 worst places ever. Anyways, we got there at like 2:30 and there was a huge line. So as always we did what caroline did Too crowded, blah whatever like for most of the time I was in there it just seemed like I was just listening to a CD or something. Like I dunno it was a weird feeling. I hate not being able to see the DJ. And if you try to you don't have room to dance, just stand there and you can't move. I defianly would never go back to that place no matter who was playing there. If I lived in NY that's another story, but definatly not worth the 200 mile + ride to get there. I can't believe they chose that dump for Paul to play in..soooo small. Anyways, enough complaining. I'll stop now.
As for the music.....So great!!!! Paul Van Dyk is still at the top of my list!! Am I glad I went? If Paul Van Dyk doens't come around for a long long time then I'm glad I went. (because i heard he's not coming around again for a while) If he's comes around again in the next couple of months or something, I'll be pissed that I went to that dump. Hehe Oh well I had fun at some points of the night. Sorry Kelly I didn't meet up with you. I waited where I thought we were saposted to meet for like 10 minutes., but then I gave up

Well, I hope that other people had more fun then i did. i hated that place....sorry if i sound like a snob or whatever but i know why everyone hates that place now. Maybe me being sick had something to do with me not having that much fun. hmmmmmm. Well, time to get some more rest. Peace and respects.
omg he played an amazingggggggg traxx..i soo wished he played suzann at the end of his set followed by for an angel! mannn he teassssssed da fuck out of the nyc crowd..he kept playin these vocal progressive tracks at end..one song was like 20 mins.but then finally he played foran angel holly shit..me and starf0x died!! it was amazing hehehe..overall it wasnt that bad of a night..i liked it alot..meaining it was my 1st real club event i been to, it could of been worse, sure there were annoying people like those fucking shirtless muslce guys..da fuck is up with them? always knocking into and shit well watever..all i know is pvd ownsssssss

and Heaven was F'g CROWDED, but had the schweetest music ever!
I really am upset that I had left 'Love From Above' last summer early, but i assure you guys, it ain't going to happen again -EVER!!!
I met up with Chris and Liz (you guys doing ok? - yes, I made it home ok, after pulling over somewhere in the NYC outskirts and sleeping for 2 hrs) and I think all three of us greatly enjoyed the show.
I died when he play 'For an Angel' - I had never heard this track at a club before. It was awesome at 8:30 am!! I did not care that I was dead tired by then
Anytime PvD comes anywhere nearby, I will be there...
well, I do not know what else to write.. it was just awesome and i had the best time ever!!
the crowd sucked....no vibe.... the musik was good...certainly not pvd at his best... I'm dying for the track id ...he spun it in the set and then in an encore but that time it was a breat beak mix female vocals going "I dont know your name"...or so I've been told. Freeza sorry about missing the meetup...I got mangled and lost myself on the dance floor with friends....the next thing I know its like 6 am! s0t...I heard u didnt get in when I first bumped into Foxie and Redeye...how did you get ur ass in? Anyway good meeting some people from the board....I drizzt81 in the basement level...and EnigmaT on the main floor with some of his friends...they just came up to me and asked if it was me...lol I was like whoa outta all the people here to think they actually found me...lol and the weird part is I had friends going that nite who were there and I didn't even see them so to think people from the board who didn't know what I looked like found me...hehehe I hope you all had a good time like I did and I hope paul returns to nyc soon!! C'mon Paul we need a set like Twilo April 01!!!!!

the vibe of the crowd sucked..cuz no one knew bout him!!! they wer all juss random clubbers...he was def the sssahhht! i missed him for three years..and when i finally heard him last nite..i was lifted off my feet!!! iwent sober too!! ahhhh!! PVD!!!
Hey Kelly, It's all good. I think that even if we were both there at the right time, we wouldn't of probably seen eachother anyways in that place. Too crowded
Hey sot, why didn't you get in the first time? No ID or something?
I didn't get in the 1st time because the girl knew right away my ID was fake, I'm only 17 so the only way to get in is by my fake id which is a pretty decent one, it doesen't look fake if you glance at it but man this girl knew. I waited online again and the girl was gone so i went to this spanish guy and was ready to tip him haha he was like "Da fuck is this money for? just go in" i was like haha sweet I'm in. I got in at around 1:45 (I been waiting on line both times for a total of 4 hours), 20 mins later Paul went on, So perfect timing . Luis Diaz didn't look like nothing much, seemed to be playing dark prog house or some shit like that. Well thats my line experience at SF lol

good to hear that u got in ok.. Ye, that girl @ the door was a b$tch.. My girlfriend is 19 and does not have a driver's license.. So she took her college ID with DOB and a bunch of other IDs, including credit cards (means she is at least 18).. Gave us hard time @ the door around 10:30pm.. I am like, get a life woman.. so she called a supervisor and asked him if they would accept college IDs.. I spoke to the guy, showed him my id (I am 26) and like, I came here with her and we r not here to get drunk, blah blah.. So he let us in, NP..
Door search - pretty much non-existant for guys... I am SF regular, and the guy seemed to know me.. He just petted my back and told me to have good times...
Girl line on the other hand - Oh my.. they were searching through their Bras, bags and pants.. I felt kinda bad, since I left my stuff with a girl.. Finally we got on the main floor..
Croud was mainly oriental, but somewhat less cocky than Exit croud @ Tiesto... Lots of Twilo shirts...
PVD set was good, he threw some house around 5-6am, I guess to respect JP and his hard house style and SF vybe on saturday nights...
Miami set was sooo much better, but PVD never disappoints and I thoroughly enjoyed his SF set...
I do enjoy SF, even on regular Sat. nights, and I certainly hope hope he comes back to NYC, wherever he chooses..
SF went a great distance to put in lasers and bunch of projectors all around to make the club visually nicer.. Thumbs up for that to SF management, which is great, unlike EXITs...
Had to leave around 6:30, I was upset since I did not wanna leave @ all...
He closed around 8:30ish...

I wish I met some of u people.. I was looking around for some of u, but unfortunately did not meet anyone..
I was @ the balcony most of the time, chillin with my friends... It was not as packed there and there was a bit of room to move tushes around..

that's what i hate about these clubs, you can never get in. i don't even have a fake id, so i can't even try. but that spanish dude was really nice if he let you in...

Just as everyone said ....crowd sucked ...but the music!!!! cant b beat!!! When he dropped sunrise....i was off! my feet were hurting by the end og the song...and cant forget roger good - in the beginning ....I was dancing my ass off!!! most fun i had in a LOOOng time I meat Taub....he spotted me out of the blue....how i ask??! LOL and i also met someone from nyc w a tranceaddict shirt.... Who was that?? lol.... well i had my twilo shirt and grew ufoz....

im asian i dont care what you call me just as long as the music is good. personally i was thoroughly pleased with pvd's set. maybe to some it was average...but to be honest...nyc hasnt been getting the vibe that twilo brought and left with...friday night reminded me of twilo. yes it was packed...but did i care? naw...pvd was spinning. thats how i remember twilo. no matter how packed it was, it didnt matter cuz the music was so fucking good. and yes when punk came on...i was struting like i was walking on miami beach...btw im in love with grooving/strutting or whatever you want to call it..not to up beat and not to trancy...just something you can walk and bob your head to...do you feel me?

the cool thing is that i shoock pauls hand when he came out of the club (right before he jumped into his limo)..that was sweet
SF is definately an awsome veny..i didnt think it would accomodate the crowd ..but it was much ..much more roomier than it was in twilo in febuary after he skipped one residency night for studio work.... SF has much greater leagal ocupancy level than twilo...(the main floor is obiously smaller tho)
as far as the crowd...didnt see a single factory head...almost all old schoolers were twilolites... and the rest were newbie ORIENTALS

as for the factory haters... one qustion to you - name me one better club in NY....none - i thaught so... better venue?...(exit?... granted..but the vibe is dead there[mngmt reasons purely]).... vynil? = jr. Twilo with no soundsystem and no airconditioning...
i hate to clim facotry stairs as much as the next guy...but i cant say there's a better place in NY than SF to hold his (crossing my fingers) residency in NY

i doubt that there's a single factory regular here since trance was heard in factory for the first time this friday...but what did you guys think of the soundsystem..they adjusted it perfectly for the highs that paul plays....
tho a big thumbs up to him in utilising the subwoofers and showing off the awsome power that factory speakers can pump out..(tho he def didnt max it out)
phazon in twilo was childs play compared to how they tweeked the soundsystem in factory now.....
in a sick way - and i thaught i'd never live to say this... but i'm kinda glad twilo is dead...

I really wish i had gone.. well, I am going to be in NYC more often now, methinks (been back in the US for 3 weeks, gone to NYC 2 times.. and going again for ferry this weekend!!!)
