Do you support racial profiling of Arabs/Muslims?

Simple question. Vote.

racial profiling is just a lazy substitute for technology and is more of a political tool used by people on both sides of the issue.

no its wrong, but it will still happen.

For it, as long as it's not exclusively arabs who're searched.

Oh trust me, its not just arabs they search

I can see some sense with some people like detectives and federal investigators doing it to look for potential sources of trouble with some evidence to support and warrant such an investigation.
But the problem starts when the 'grunts' on the ground stomping around start doing it. All the little security goons, airport guards, beat cops, highway patrols, thats when you have problems because-
A: they dont know enough to do it properly
B: its another excuse in some cases to harass a minority group
C: a real terrorist isnt going to even raise the slightest alarm bells to skip underneath their radar anyway

So hence, it's useless on any basic level of security

Well, I'm one of "them" and we don't support it in any form. We profile individuals, not races.

I've been on the end of some of 'them' that don't do it properly in the US and it was thoroughly unpleasent and completely unwarranted going about my normal business.

I don't know how it works over there but here the screening process to get to be one of "them" is pretty damn strict and the few rotten apples who get through get weeded out pretty quickly.

But I guess I'm sidetracking the topic here... carry on.

No. I think it's about the same as pointing to someone and saying "That guy looks like trouble, lets arrest him" based on nothing more than appearance.

indeed. And it always happens to my lil brother at uk airports. They must think he's a nuisance or something!

I don't support it, as it's individuals who cause problems, and something like this is more likely imo to turn someone from a partial supporter of the groups into more of a hardline one, treat people how you expect to get it back

I'm very torn on the issue...

On one hand I think that it's wrong to group individuals based on the actions of a few. It's stereotyping and racist.

On the other hand, if you have a limited amount of police force, and you know you can't check everyone, it does make sense to check the most likely candidates.


In short, it's an invasion of privacy and racist, but it seems to be the most effective way with limited resources of searching for possible "bad guys."

Fuck no! I've been racially profiled and it sucks. Oh yea It's great when you and a white guy get caught in the same place doing the same thing at the exact same time and the white guy gets to go free while you get arrested.

Instead of getting everyone to work together to get rid of few bad people causing trouble, racial profiling only polarizes the rift between various groups and more problems arise.

A race is not evil. Only individuals are. Innocent until proven guilty.

I really don't like many of stupid policies being done in the name of national security

i think they should search only arabs. whats the point in stopping a white family who are obviously not suicide bombers. everyone knows the only people who are suicide bombers are arabs.

that might sound racist but its a simple fact. when people come into a country they should obey the laws not demand their laws to be recognised. chinese people come over and never threaten with suicide bombers or complain about the laws or want their kids to be allowed what they want in school. if you dont like the law dont move over.

obviously it is only a select view that are terrorists but if you search only the arabs then they will soon get fed up protecting the terrorists (as they do) and give them up if questioned. all these people live in the same streets they are all close and no each other very well so theres no excuse for them not being searched.

furthermore, irish people in the 1970's were arrested and interned for weeks at a time. some spend years in jail without trial. alot were innocent so what makes these people different from the irish. why are they getting special priviledges?

Also the irish had legitimate reasons for their compaign. the british were in our country and were not wanted. its not as if the irish were born in england or moved there then cried about laws or threatened with suicide bombers. yes they did bomb places and i dont condone that. the irish were collected on their own doorstep in their country flew to england and beaten until they admitted to something they didnt do.

i also dont agree with the war on iraq. i simply dont believe in invading someones country when your not wanted. i just think when its british born muslims that are causing the havoc its time to segregate that section until the wanted people are found.

No, aside from being unethical, it breeds more hate/resentment towards the profilers, therefore, worsening the situation.

Just today we stopped a man with a fucking massive knife trying to get through security. Was he an arab? No, he was swedish.
