oh christ, intellegent dance music fans. there were tons of people in my music theory classes in college that went on and on about how their music superceded all comparisons.

its the most absurd arguement

edit: although i do think his underlying point that, these DJ's have aged and that their senseless marketing ploys playing others music has been beat to death. that much i agree with

I have to agree there. It rambles, seems to wander topics wildly between beginning and end, displays an affinity towards dropping names and an ignorance towards any real knowledge on the subject matter (why the fuck would Hybrid put a Space Manoeuvres track on their own album?) and generally seems caught between trying to offer a commentary on something it doesn't really understand and trying to sum up an entire music scene in one go.

That articles has got to be the biggest load of crap I have ever read.

Good to see the journalism in Miami is every bit as deep as the majority of the cities inhabitants.

Couldn't have summed it better myself.

Oh FFS:

1. You're from Minnesota.

2. I'm a worldly individual.

Miami, particularly South Beach, is the most superficial place I've ever seen on this planet - and many would agree.

So I'll say to you what I've said to many, save your condescending "rolleyes" smiley for someone else.

What does Busdriver have to do with the fall of the superstar DJ.

LOL.

Very incoherent and annoying to read article.

First thing I thought when I read that, too. Talk about name-dropping for the cool kids.

Agreed and I live in Las Vegas, I thought people here were fake but, Miami takes it to a different level from what I have seen.

Jean Carey is a kook who needs to learn how to write.

Has the journalist who wrote this article been in a coma for six years?

The Superstar DJ thing died out in about 2001 over here.

The New Times have always been full of useless nonesense. That article was just ridiculous, but that is what you get from the New Times. There were no facts mentioned of any kind. Is attendance down at the clubs? If so, give me examples. Have clubs had to start reducing cover charges to get people to come see these DJs? If so give me examples. Nothing to see here folks, move on. The New Times have about as much credibility here in Miami as the newspapers with the phone sex and escort phone numbers.

new york & miami have one thing in common. Bad CSI knock-offs

Posted by jahnlay on Feb-02-2007 10:10:

Although the article could be better written, the writer does give props to some good artists like Ellen Allien, The Knife and Kraak &Smaak; and merely takes the opportunity to chat about a lot of deeper artists at the expense of the superstar dj's. I concur with some of the points.

Isn't this article 5 years too late, ....or too early... depending on how old you are, and which end of the edm spectrum you're at....???

Posted by Salem on Feb-02-2007 14:42:

Yeah but vegas one is watchable, and has the unique style of being in that particular area. The Miami one is just a war between 'posh' white people, southern trash & hispanics and the new york one makes murder she wrote look plausible.
