Looking to get started CD mixing... Need suggestions

Hiya,

I've decided that I'm gonna to start looking into getting a cd rig up and going. The reason I've decided this is because I'm looking to give something new a shot. I got nothin against the tt's... I'm just looking to give something new a shot that not a lot of peeps round here are doing.

So I'm in need of suggestions, I've done very minimal research... very minimal... I'm looking at a price range aroud $500 right now...

So what are some CD decks that I should take a look at...

What kinda mixer should I look into...

Thanks for the help.

$500 for cd players and a mixer?

You need more money. You can't skimp with cd players...

Well I guess I have no idea what I'm talking about... heh...

I'm going to be playing simply for myself... thats all...

Just having the ability to instant start the cd and adjust the pitch and do barebones mixes is what I would be happy with doing... All the effects and cue start loops don't really do anything for me...

Maybe I'm missing the point, you tell me

The problem with cheap cd players is that they aren't going to stop instantly or start instantly or adjust properly when you slide the pitch.

It's possible that cheap cd players have gotten better recently... you may be able to find a good american dj cd player in your price range. I don't know for sure though, maybe someone has more experience with budget cd players.

Thanks for the help Mike.

Pretty much barebones is what I'm looking for though... Anyone have any experience with Pioneer's CDJ-100S' or Gemini's CDJ-30 decks? Just for referance I'd mostly be spinnin goa/psy trance...

Heh... I actually just though about getting 2 regular cd players and and borrowing a mixer for the time being... but I figure I might as well get something a little more serious.

What features should I be looking for?

I'm planning on getting the Pioneer CDJ100S. They are reliable and built well, and also have some good features, and effects as well.

Zapo what are you thinkin as far as a mixer goes? I'm lookin for something minimal but with decent eq effects...

Yeah, go with pioneer... i have2 cdj-100's and they are amazing. Stay away from anything gemini, you can't compare them to pioneer. In terms of cd player quality, this is the ranking: 1) Pioneer 2) Denon 3) Don't bother.

"What features should I be looking for?"

Are you talking about mixer or cd players?

I'm looking at getting the Vestax PCV-175. It's a higher end mixer with 3 channel, EQs, kills, etc. Vestax are good quality mixers.

I have the Vestax PCV-275 and its fvcking class. Pretty expensive, but very, very good nonetheless.

I definately wouldn't call vestax "higher-end"...

If you get the pioneers how much money will you be left with?

I have had a pair of CDJ 100's for a couple of years now and I like them much more than the american DJ decks I've used before. They American Dj's skip a LOT under moderate base--can't use them for clubs, raves etc. I have also used a CDJ-1000 and I don't like it as much as the 100's. Maybe I just have to get used to it, but it's too different in technique to me. I also have a DJM-600 and I must say, if money is your concern, then go with the 300 because once you use the 600 a lot you'll never be happy with going back to a 300 or 500. If you have the money then go for the 600, don't bother with the 500.

Vestax is bloody top quality and way, way better than Pioneer in that department.. i dont know whats up with u.. i guess you must like American DJ or Pyle Pro or something like that..

And no shit Gemini dont compare to the Pioneer.. the price is so much higher between the companies' products.. it just makes sense..

On another note, take the CDJ-100S since they are the best value cd players out there.. Also the Vestax PCV-175 is a good mixer to adapt and around $50+ cheaper than the Pioneer DJM-300 but doesnt have BPM..
