[REVIEW] James Zabiela @ Tentation 02/01/07

so my day starts out shitty so i was really on the fence about going but i end up going anyways. got there at 1015 and got in at 1030. wasnt packed but it sure wasnt empty. packed in pretty well by 1130.

so the first guy was on and did a descent job. nothing special but not boring. hes spinning till 1130 when james gets on.

james gets on and the crowd hoots and hollers. i was planning on leaving right after i got my shirt signed.....well needless to say i didnt and damn am i glad. i stayed till 1245 and he was KILLING it. i was fucking loving it!

James: if your read this...AWESOME job! i cant wait for miami!

What a fun night! I danced all night, my body is hurting! I'm so DEAD right now! I knew I would suffer at work lol.... but it's ok, hearing James is always worth it! I thought the set got INSANE from 12:40am and on. I didn't even want to leave the dancefloor to get air... hehe. I only recognized a couple of songs, which was refreshing, because all the DJ's I've been seeing the past few months have been playing played out songs.

So, during his set, I was stuck in the front right corner the entire time because it was too packed! Too many sleeze bag Persian guys, desperate to get layed. I felt that I couldn't even make eye contact with any of them, because then they would come up to me and wouldn't leave me alone!! One guy was trying to have a convo with me, and after him not getting off my back for 1-2 minutes, I told him, "I'm just hear to enjoy the music tonight, I'm not here to talk to any guys"... and he was like "ya, the music is good, what DJ is that playing"? I got so annoyed that I told him "look, I know you are just saying that to impress me. If you don't know who that DJ is, then u don't belong here... can u leave me alone now please? i'm missing the music".

I was getting REALLY frustrated about that all last night. And that security guy standing by the stage up front, you all know who I am talking about, the ASSHOLE. And that pirate freak with the glowsticks. Wow. Little things like that can be a buzz kill, but atleast I got to avoid alot of it by standing in that front right corner.

Ok, back to work now.

I just think it's a little rude. Not rude that you said it to him, especially if you wanted him to fuck off, but rude for thinking that. Do people have to know who's spinning in order to have a good time? I could one up you and say, "if you don't know the names of the tracks, you don't belong here"

True, true... but I was already being rude to that guy, and he wasn't getting the "hint", so I couldn't think of any other rude things to say. That was the first thing that popped into my head... lol

well just remember. at least you had fun....i did too even though i had to leave early.

In Newport Beach, I don't know if the whole venue is new or if Giant has just started throwing parties there. But it's been every Thursday for the past few months. I remember meeting the guy that runs/owns/somehow is involved with it (before Giant came in) at my record store, and he said he was going to start doing Thursdays in Newport. I told him to forget about Orange County because it's shit when it comes to dance music (still is btw). But he said he was gonna bring in Deep Dish and Armin, etc...I said good luck but it won't work. Boy was I wrong

Yeah there is also a house night down there called Focus on Tuesdays at Tapas close to John Wayne Airport. I went down there a few times for that. I was really surprised first to hear that there was actually house music in newport and also to find that the night was pretty active.

It was my first time seeeing Zabs last night and while I still need to catch a set at Vanguard, his set at Ten last night sufficed. I had to leave right at one in the morning but he was killin it during the time that I was there. I'll be waiting to see Zabs again @ Vanguard.

You know......I've been dancing at Tentation for the past month and though I love to dance.....that place isn't fun. I didn't get to see anyone there last night, we're not allowed to speak to anyone, we can't drink, we can't do this and we can't do that. James music was off the hook last night and I was so looking forward to seeing loads of TA's but security there sucks and it's no fun.

I was really bumbed I didn't see anyone except a quick hello to Woody and Ben. Major bumber....I didn't get to say hi to Julia either. My passion is dancing and I love to dance to music, I had a couple of the bussers come up to me and said, "you bring alot of energy to this club" and I was like, "yeah but theres too much BS here, I'm a gogo dancer and it's my job to interact with the crowd and make the club that much more fun and they make us look like snobs." I'm not a snob, I love talking to people and having fun and it wasn't fun.

For those of you who were there last night, hope you had fun and enjoyed James set, he was rocking and I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to say hi......but it wasn't me. Hope to see you all soon this month at Avalon, I'll be there for Steve Porter and Blank and Jones and RED Fridays with Scott Bond on the 23rd.

i will say that since i havent been there in a while security has gotten a lot more assholish. they arent as nice and chill as they were 3 months ago. i dont know what happened but they sure as hell arent the same as they were.

des it was nice seeing ya but yeah i noticed you were totally out of your element.

I had a blast last night. Eventhough I was only there for an hour, what I heard was amazing.

I wish I could've stayed longer, but I had to sneak out of the club I was playing out just so I can stop by and say hi to James, and off course all the TA's.

Anyhow, I had fun except for those rude people on the front. It got to the point where some guy that kept jumping, pushing and spilling beer on us annoyed the shit out me. I got mad and I grabbed him and told him to relax or that I was gonna ask security to kick him out. He apologized and calmed down.

Than what's up with people trying to get into fights. I saw some girl get pushed into another girl. The girl ignored it but the girl that got pushed got mad and started telling the other girl shit when it was HER OWN FAULT!!! She was doing the infamous WASHING MACHINE DANCE!!!

Oh and that pirate! Oh boy, he was annoying too. What's up with all these people thinking they own the dancefloor. Don't they realize they make it uncomfortable for everyone else.

Oh and that security on the front was a dick. If I raised my hands to take a pict, he would tell me to put it down. If you stand one inch past the yellow line he would push you back, WTF! Than he saw me taking pics of Desiree and he told me I wasn't allowed to do that! WTF!!!

Oh and when I got there, there was this two HOT girls in line. They asked the bouncer what was going on, and he said it was "TECHNO MUSIC." Which honestly, I don't care about that, because most people call anything EDM either TECHNO or HOUSE. Than those girls are like CAN YOU LET US IN? And security said, "I'll let you in for half price."

It was good seeing old friends and off course new ones. Julia, I missed you! I haven't seen you in a long time. I'm glad you were there. Pablo, damn, I think it's been longer since I've seen you. Desiree (You looked fabulous) Hehehe And off course the usual suspects, Ben, Drew, HadiBurpi, Arthur (D00d, for some reason, I thought you worked there! hahaha), Anna, Mike (RED), DJ Magik, Warren, the whole WiredLA Crew, JC, and the list goes on.

Sorry I didn't get to see Jane or Karen! Where were you girls? hehe

I can't get over how rude all the bouncers were last night. I finally got the one asshole bouncer in the front to give in though... lol. He saw me trying to push the Pirate guy out of my way, and the bouncer was like "Ya, I can't stand that idiot either, but he's with this place, so I can't tell him anything".

So either the Pirate guy is a partner at Tentation, or the bouncer was lieing and the Pirate guy gave him a tip or something to not kick him out lol.

I'm so tired that I'm hallucinating right now. Can't wait to get off work and go home to sleep.

Was it an Indian-ish looking guy? There was this one short dude who stepped on my foot and he wildly jumped up and down and apologized profusely, WHILE spraying himself on me. I said chill, I'm alright. He kept going on.

I thought he was rude. And yeah, annoying. He continued to intrude btwn people who were dancing, such as myself. I also thought Tentation was not the type of place with the appropriate dancefloor, to fit the capacity of people who'd come to see DJ's such as James Zabiela, and also for A&Beyond for next week.

Yeah, we didn't see each other!!! Most of the time, I was in the front listening to Zabs and was at the back lounge area too! I didn't get to see Karen either, got to see Ben, Xtractor and some others. Good meeting the other new folks. heh.

First time getting to see Zabs and it was amazing. NYTA's are in for a treat when he heads down there next week.

No, he was some white dude. He spilled his beer all over himself, all over us, and all over MY HAIR!!! Ughh, I smelled like beer all night! The asshole bouncer asked him to leave when he saw that. That was the highlight of my experience with the asshole bouncer!

We probably shouldn't meet... Stepping on people's feet and spraying myself on people are my specialties.
