The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement

quote:
Phasing out the human race by voluntarily ceasing to breed will allow Earth's biosphere to return to good health. Crowded conditions and resource shortages will improve as we become less dense.

i guess i'm a member too, though my reasoning has nothing to do with nursing the earth back to its health, in any case, by 2020 the next stage in evolution will have been reached, a far more efficient one, with a format leap to boot.

Elaborations? Links? You've piqued my interest.

read some Ray Kurzweil.

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Feb-03-2007 15:10:

Kurzweil's off. The stuff he's talking about will happen, but not nearly as quickly as he thinks it will. And he's not going to live forever.

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Feb-03-2007 15:15:

The site linked reeks of moralism, which funnily enough ties them very strongly to the fundies they make fun of.

Kind of like how there's not much of a difference between love and hate since they both require passion, eh?

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Feb-03-2007 16:16:

Yes, sort of.

Most groups or movements require some standard of dogma, or zealotry. Your statement could be made about almost any circumstance of one group being discontent with another. However, it is valid.

his prediction for a computer 'neurally equal' to a human being in 2020 makes complete sense based on the history of computing.

Well shoo', duo core processors already perform better than the human brain by being able to perform two different operations at the same time equally as well. Now they're coming out with quad core processors which can perform eight tasks at the same time. I have no Blue's fucking clue if that is in any way tied to neurally equal, but it does say something.

No, not really. Moralism is a symptom of very specific ideologies, usually "evangelistic" ones. It's probably most common among fundamentalist religions but isn't limited to them by any means.

Read for more.
