Of course, I knew this all along, I've seen videos for christ's sake. Russia is putting billions of dollars into Chechnya. In 2002, Grozny was 90% destroyed buildings. Now look at it today. And there's only better things to come.

Thanks for bringing up those great pictures! Lets compare those to Iraq!

I am fluent in Russian, I can translate some of the advetisements in the photos:

"Let's turn City of Grozny into a flowering garden!"

Monument of the slain father of the current Chechen top government official Kadyrov, slain by rebels in 2002:

The sign in red says: "Our work is to protect your rights."

Below it advertisement for plastic doors and windows ... at a great price.

And below image is what a section of the same above main Grozny street looked like only 5 years ago:

Re: for all those who still believe that Russia has...

Doesn't anyone notice how Russia is bullying all of its neighbors.

Belarus, Chechnya, Georgia.

Russian uranium was found in Georgia just a few days ago. Russia also assassinates dissenters.

Your off topic. I guess thats your only weapon to discredit the actual positive developments and rebuilding within Russia ;-)

The topic is rebuilding Chechnya.

It was a joking comment, junior, and it didnt shift the topic - in fact I continued talking about Chechnya in the next post. sO FUCK OFF with your trolling, junior.

I brought it up, because I thought it was relevant.

Russia is a bully.

Since 1917, Chechnya has actively sought independence, which Russia has never granted. Chechnya Timeline

Maybe not to Belarus though...

With Georgia, it seems a reluctant Russia may have let its satellite finally go; under the constant shadow of a giant.

Alright, alright ... since you're so persistant, I'll answer.

First of all, once the Baltic sea pipeline will be completed, there will be no more so called "Russian bullying". Because then Russia wont have to beg these transit countries to allow transit of oil for 500 percent discount of gas/oil to these bully states. The oil will flow to Europe without interruptions or confrontation ;-)

As with independence movements - well, well. UK, Canada, Spain and other developed countries have their own problems in the area. But you dont hear them granting independence to the regions, do you? Russia is protecting its sovereignity. Because if Russia just lets every region to separate, the country would disintegrate and weaken and the demise of Russian people will start. Even in USA in Hawaii native peoples who were occupied by US forces in 1903 are calling for independence, which is vaguely heard.

The oil situation, I'll give kudos to Russia. They shouldn't have to subsidize their former satellites of oil now that they are no longer satellites.

The western nations have accepted the sovereignty of foreign states long ago. It probably took armed revolt to do it in some instances, but the parent nation usually got the message and granted independence.

Grozny is one of the most dangerous capitals in the world. It is clear that the Chechnyans want their independence, and the longer Russia draws out the conflict, the longer the turmoil will continue. Russia will never subdue Chechnya, and the sooner they realize that, the better.

That is something western nations have realized and dealt with long ago.

Actually, the reason why independence movements have began in Russia is because of economic collapses of late 1980s-late1990s. People blamed the central power for their hardships, and other radicals like Dudayev and Basayev used this an an excuse to fight for independence to achieve happiness for its people. However, in 1996-1999 years of Chechen independence, quite the opposite happened - mafia, crime, murder reigned, most people were unemloyed and had to look for criminal activity to pay for survival. The country was never rebuilt at that time. Chechen people suffered greatly in 1991-2003. Since then a new light in shining in Russia, funded by high oil and gas prices, which are fueling the economic growth and rebuilding of the whole country.

Chechens are tired of the war. They are determined to settle down and live in peace than to uproot and continue destruction of their own people, their own land. They saw what Wahhabism did in 1996-1999. It didnt bring them prosperity.

Chechnya is being rebuilt, steadily, and I think in the future it will be one of the most prosperous regions in the country based on natural resources and people's experience that state of war does not make their life better.

Is Grozny still looking like 1945 Dresden?

Do you have anymore pictures showing a reconstructing Chechnya?... because I've only found stuff about how bad it is over there

Unfortunately, I dont have the money or the time to fly to Grozny to see better for myself. But judging by the photos, its looks way better than 1945 Drezden But I guess a dozen photos is not enough for you, but I dont have the time or interest to find you a book full of pictures of rebuilt Grozny
