What if you had a co-worker that STINKS!!!

There is this guy setting next to me, he does not smell good at the best of time, but today man was it bad. It was like he forgot to wipe his ass or something? I had to write an e-mail to my boss to have a private meeting. I told him he must move me now, because I'm getting physical sick from the stink. So my boss and I had to brainstorm a way for everyone to save face. The question how would you tell someone they stink?

"Hey "guy" I don't mean to be rude or anything, but you smell. Can you please shower more often or at least put on some deodorant."

That would be pretty not bad.

"You stink. Do something about it or you're getting glade disinfectant sprayed in your eyes everyday."

Posted by Endlesswave on Feb-03-2007 03:38:

Get him some cologne as an office 'gift'.

Posted by *~LiSa-LoO~* on Feb-03-2007 03:39:

You could start talking to him casually about a new cologne, deodorant or soap you're "interested" in trying and ask his opinion. Ask him what he uses....I dunno

That's always a touchy subject.

Posted by Banelord on Feb-03-2007 03:43:

Then I went around and talk to other people, they know about it too!!!
Someone else has made this fact known to my boss. I think we all had this kind of co-work once in our life. I guess u can only HOPE he notice and does something about it.

Posted by oldschool420 on Feb-03-2007 03:45:

Why not just tell him? If its really bothering you all tell him. It's not a crime.

Posted by Banelord on Feb-03-2007 03:51:

I would like to but that really hurtful to someone. I told my boss to change the seats for some people and put him in a coner, that why he would not feel we are singling him out.

Hahahah how is putting him in a corner not singling him out?!

You'd either have to A) put him in a corner with some people still near him - and thus they would be affected. Or B) put him in a corner alone...which would basically be singling him out.

Not to mention, you're still going to have to interact with this guy I'm assuming. Unless you all just avoid him.

Posted by Misanthrope on Feb-03-2007 04:01:

fuck man. I really feel for you. I had the most SMELLIEST WORKER EVER. I used to automatically hold in my breath. Dude. MY BODY AND MIND CO-OPERATED WOULD AUTOMATICALLY REACT WHEN MY BRAIN/SIGHT ENGAGED THAT THIS DUDE WAS COMING TOWARDS ME AND ALERTED THE REST OF THE BODY TO HOLD MY BREATH IN.

I probably made no fucking sense, but the memories of the smell is engulfing me right now.

Fuck, I even had a talk with this guy - how people don't wear deodorant.

his "claim" on not using deo was a religious one.

BECAUSE THERE IS A PERCENTAGE OF ALCOHOL IN IT.

THAT WAS PROBABLY THE STUPIDEST THING I EVER HEARDIN MY LIFE.

fuck, even at the meeting, I was going to stand up and talk about body hygiene but my boss said noooooo, it's rude. WELL ITS FUCKING RUDE TO STINK UP MY PERSONAL SPACE.

FOR FUCKS SAKE.

Report it to HR. HR doesn't do anything about it, take matters into your own hands. [not violently obviously]

uhhhh cologne masks the smell.

you can still smell b.o. under cologne.

Posted by Endlesswave on Feb-03-2007 04:07:

Ummmmmmmm tell them to shower more?

Apparently some people have a religious belief in not showering or using deoderant. Basically because they say "It's how god made us" (more so then the alcohol part I think Mona) so why use it? (they probably still shower though I'd hope???)

I saw in an interview how Matthew Mcaunahey (sp) hasn't used deoderant in 20+ years, that's nuts!

Posted by oldschool420 on Feb-03-2007 04:07:

Pfff rude. Rude is stinking so badly and bothering people around you. Why are so many people such pussys nowadays? If you have a problem, speak up!

how about putting him in a corner with all the other stinky individuals? kaka corner

you're gonna hurt his feelings....lol..social isolation is not the answer,

Just tell face that he need to do something about the odor, because it bothers people.
use the direct approach, if he doesn't already realize that he's a bit stinky [some ppl get used to it and don't realize what's smelly], he'll appreciate knowing [even though it's gonna bother him a bit, but oh well]

and he does not do anything about it, there is a corner with his name on it.

I don't think I'd be able to just flat our say something to the guy. I would feel bad b/c you know he'd probably be really embarrassed.

the religious belief excuse is getting kind of old; how about getting with the system and adopt morally acceptable principles.

why use doedorant excesively when shower and nice clean clothes do the trick? fucking pricks with half a can on deodorant on them...puke

speaking up is good but there are limits and think twice before saying something, it might backfire on you.

Fair enough, I agree with that in most cases. But in this case, something clearly needs to be said to the guy. Would you prefer all your co-workers speak behind your back about how bad you stink, or have someone tell you so maybe you can fix the problem?

noooooo.
His argument was based on his belief about how Muslims are forbidden to have any contact with alcohol.

Actually there is a smell policy implemented in many workplaces, but about perfume/cologne - keeping it an allergy free zone.

that's why I told Banelord to report it to HR or take matters into its own hands.

Ok I get that. How does that work at hospitals though or if you cut yourself?

The office is bad...8 hrs of that BS omg!! the worst is the gym, I understand ppl sweat and smell a bit, usually the smell is a fading deo, but in all honesty some people just dont give a shit. When useing the same weights, machines, benches etc.. these slimeballs dont even wipe their sweatstains off...disgusting...if your old enought to pay for a gym membership, your old to buy some B.O. killer....

Posted by LiANG on Feb-03-2007 04:44:

Spray cologne on him, behind his back obviously, or where he sits without him knowing who did it. Hopefully he'll get the message that people in the office doesn't like how he smells.
